Marlins' homers down Cards
By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

?
JUPITER, Fla. -- Juan Encarnacion and Brian Banks homered and drove in two runs apiece Saturday as the Marlins toppled the Cardinals 7-3 at Roger Dean Stadium.
Banks (3-for-4) and Encarnacion (2-for-3) highlighted a 15-hit Florida attack.

Juan Alvarez tossed two scoreless innings and picked up the win. Marlins relievers retired 15 straight at one stretch.

A three-run fourth gave the Marlins a 5-2 lead. Pinch-hitter Andy Fox started the rally with a single, and Luis Castillo slapped an infield hit. Juan Pierre's third bunt single in four bunt tries this spring, loaded the bases. Banks broke the tie with a single, while Jason Wood added an RBI sacrifice fly, and Encarnacion drove in another run with a single off first base.

Chad Allen, who homered on Friday against the Orioles, sliced an RBI single in the sixth, giving the Marlins a 6-2 advantage.

In his first start of the spring, right-hander Josh Beckett admittedly was overthrowing and he struggled in two innings.

The Cardinals scored twice off Beckett in the first inning. Kerry Robinson led off with a single and Jim Edmonds stroked a sharp single to center. Both scored on Albert Pujols' double.

Beckett gave up five hits, walked two, but finished on a high by striking out Edmonds and Pujols.

Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez started a two-run fourth with a leadoff double to center and scored on Jason Woods' RBI ground out to short. Encarnacion's homer to center off Josh Pearce tied it at 2.

That was a good game for us and we deserved to win. Encarnacion is showing big signs for this upcoming year! Banks also homered and he is showing us what he can do. Pudge came with a big double to center.Thats good that almost every starting marlin had a hit. :w00t

Good Game Juan Alvarez pitched good and Chad Allen is playing good, too. Beckett was rusty and he showed but he did solid even if he gave up two runs.
