Geoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, the seminal L.A. band that made heavy music into political manifesto, will reunite after a seven-year lull for one show as the headliners at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

L.A. Times' sources say RAGE, which played the main stage at the first Coachella in 1999, will be joined by other familiar faces for the eighth edition of the festival, which covers three days this year and begins April 27: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, which headlined in 2003, are back, as is BJ?RK, who topped the bill in 2002.

Organizers were mum this weekend and it was not clear which day RAGE or the other acts were slotted to play; that announcement is expected in the next few days. Other acts expected in the eclectic lineup: ARCADE FIRE, INTERPOL, WILLIE NELSON, THE ROOTS, MANU CHAO, THE DECEMBERISTS, ARCTIC MONKEYS, SONIC YOUTH, CROWDED HOUSE, AIR, TI?STO and KINGS OF LEON.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, via Ticketmaster. Three-day passes will cost about $250 and there will be a limited number of single-day passes available.

I dont know about paying 250, but I would like to see them. I heard that Cornel is going to do a solo project so maybe they get back together and do a tour in the summer. Maybe headline ozzfest?

I already got my pre-sale ticket for $200. I'm mad psyched for Bjork, but I don't know much about Rage. Someone tell me where to begin, to see if I like them.

Well their most famous songs are "killing in the name of", "bulls on parade", "sleep now in the fire". Check those out and see if you like them. Most of their songs sound like those.

Listen to Audioslave and replace the guy singing with a guy talking/screaming over those same beats while talking about psuedo-politics and you've pretty much got it nailed.

This is good for Rage fans, maybe. But, I much prefer Chris Cornell to De La Rocha.

Rage isn't bad. I'm kind of surprised they get the top bill over RHCP, if I'm reading correctly.

Are you serious? RATM is 10 times better than audioslave. I hope audioslave breaks up and RATM returns.

In case anyone cares...

Rolling Stone is reporting the Smashing Pumpkins as playing, but no other sources are saying that, so I'm not really buying. But Coachella usually does add a couple big acts to the lineup as time goes by. After the initial announcement last year, Madonna, Daft Punk, and Massive Attack were all added on.

Thanks for posting the flyer Mabdul.

Benny Benassi??????!!!!!!!!!! :arms Too cool.

I was very suprised to see Crowded House. That's takin it way back in the day. I wonder if both Finn brother's are performing. I'm sure everyone has heard the song, "Don't Dream Its Over" (Hey now, hey now, don't dream its over).

Some very cool acts are on the bill: Interpol, Faithless (I KANT GET NO SLEEP), MSTRKRFT (think Daft Punk but from Canada).

5 stages...

I have never had the problem of having nothing to see. Usually, the problem is when I have to pass up on seeing a band I love for a band I love even more.

That's your opinion. I happen to think, like De La Rocha's singing, it sucks.

I really like the Audioslave lineup better than the RATM. Plus, they don't keep as much of that hoighty-toighty front that they're a political movement as well as a band up. I thought Rage got too preachy and Audioslave adds in some cheesy rock elements I happent to like.

But, whatever, apples and oranges.

I think the Roots and Bjork do more for me in that lineup than anything else.

If Rage against the machine was on saturday night I would consider going for the weekend. Now i will probably have to hope that they go on tour (even if a mini tour around the US)

Looks like I'm going Friday and Saturday, but not Sunday. No Rage for me. Hopefully it sells out and I can use my ticket to cut down on the costs of this trip.

Oh its three seperate tickets and not one for the entire weekend? If thats the case i am sure you can atleast get 85 dollars (the cost of a one day ticket)

How many people does that place hold?

It's always been 3 separate tickets...er, 2 tickets...this is the first year they've done 3 days. But, yeah...each day is separate. I don't think they can realistically expect people to hold onto their tickets all day.

I'm not sure quite how many it holds. Truth is, they could always add more. It is a GIANT field. It takes about 10 mins to walk from one end to the other.

Attendance seems to go up every year. Last year they let in 60,000 people each day.
