TAMPA, Fla. -- Reliever Ron Villone agreed to a minor league contract with the New York Yankees on Tuesday and was invited to the team's major league spring training camp.

The 37-year-old left-hander went 3-3 with a 5.04 ERA in a career-high 70 games with the Yankees last season. Villone has pitched for 10 major league teams and has a career mark of 55-57.

Villone made $2.1 million last season. He would get a $2.5 million, one-year contract if added to the major league roster and would have the chance to earn $300,000 in performance bonuses: $100,000 each for 55, 60 and 65 games.

Villone was pretty efficient early on in the year with the Yanks...... he really fell apart towards the end of the year.

With the money they have and the bullpen troubles they have, he definitely should have gotten an MLB contract.
