Sports Immortals in Boca Raton

Featured Replies

I went to the Sports Immortals museum in Boca Raton today, that place is amazing. I highly recommend any south florida sports fans go there and check it out, it's this massive two story 100,000 square foot sports museum and they have some amazing and incredibly rare stuff that everyone reads or knows about but has never actually seen. They've got a Honus Wager card, babe ruth bats, etc. etc. The museum they have upstairs is just really amazing, i'd estimate 70% of it is all sorts of famous historical baseball stuff. I also got to meet the guy who owns the collection, and it's worth more than $20 million dollars. I actually live in Boca and never even knew this place existed until I drove by it today and decided to go in, I spent 3 hours there just looking around at everything. Their website is www.sportsimmortals.com

I was talking to the guy who owns the collection (Joel) and I asked him how he even came across the opportunity to find a Honus Wagner card to buy, and he said that he bought it in the 70's for $30,000 and now it's worth something like 1.2 million... nice investment, lol.

Definitely a cool place, but it seems a little shady. I felt like I was sitting through one of those time-share presentations when I went, as they hounded me to sit through their little movie upstairs, which pretty much was just a video asking for money to build some other type of facility.

But the Honus slab makes it worth the trip all by itself. I've seen one of the other Wagners, but it was like viewing the Constitution. You were roped back like 20 feet and the thing was under about 700 feet of smoked plexigass.

The one at Sports Immortals is right there. You can walk right up to it. Pretty darn cool.

Hmmmm... looks like Max and I may have to take a trip up to Boca some day. :)

I didn't watch the video when I was there. I'm pretty sure I was the only other customer they had at the time.
