Balls This Year A less Tighly Wound

Featured Replies

No, I have no article confirming this, but I have baseballs from games this year and last, and this year they are definitely not as tightly wound (and I have three from this year.) I'm not sure how this correlates with increased homers (because the less tightly wound, the less distance a ball goes). However, Bonds said he believes the balls are less tighly wound and I would have to agree with him.

How tight they are wound has to do with the slingshot effect. The tighter the ball the quickier it jumps off the bat.
