Posted June 25, 200420 yr Star center fielder Carlos Beltran was traded from Kansas City to the Houston Astros on Thursday night as part of a three-way deal that also sent closer Octavio Dotel to Oakland. The rest can be read at ESPN.COM Thoughts?
June 25, 200420 yr i guess everyone assuming the yankees or red sox would get him are looking a tad stupid now.
June 25, 200420 yr I'm going to have to agree with the Passion...Beltran is looking to be over-rated. He's good, don't get me wrong, but he's going to max out at about 30 HR's, and in a walk year when everyone knows that Boras is going to be out for blood on the open market...he's putting up rather unspectacular numbers. He's going to put up numbers in Houston, but honestly, I'm glad he ended up there. I don't think they have enough to win the division...even with Beltran. When the Cubs get 100% healthy they have to be the favorite, and right now, the Cardinals have a five game strangle hold...which is a lot to make up when four teams in the division are going to finish over .500 for certain, it's going to be a tough hill to climb. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm glad that he didn't end up on the Mets or Phillies, and it makes us focus maybe a little harder on Steve Finley (who I think is perfect for us) and Beltran in Houston won't have a chance to hurt us considering we won't see them again in the regular season...
June 25, 200420 yr good deal all around everyone gets what they wanted to fill their holes KC ... 3rd base (they are very high on Teahan) plus a good catcher prospect OAK ... bullpen has stunk ... but will improve with dotel HOU ... Beltran enough said Astros have the sickest team all around bank another one for the killer b's :lol Berkman Baggio Bagwell ... BELTRAN !!! awesome pitching staff ... im amazed

Me=Proud member of the group that said there was no way he'd go to either Boston or the Yanks. Oh, and Houston got a huge steal in this deal, highway robbery is a term that comes to mind. This move puts the Astros right back in contention.
June 25, 200420 yr i am happy for beltran...he is now on a better team and he will be even better now.....the astros now are pretty freakin scary. the A's get dotel....woopi freakin doo. anyway finley will probably go to the AL
June 25, 200420 yr man did Beane get HOSED. I mean, that was stupid; The royals and Astros did very well. Beane should have asked for more, like getting Lidge with his lesser perceived value and something else. He gave away a good pitcher and a good hitter...friggin' stupid. He could have got Jose Mesa to close for him for A LOT less.
June 25, 200420 yr Glad the Sox didnt get him. OVER-RATED Definitely. Take him out of a hitters park, and he's pretty much craig biggio that plays good centerfield. If he was a yankke, his .340 on abse and 20 homers wouldn't thrill me, he would be just a leadoff hitter.
June 25, 200420 yr This was Beane faulting on one of his Moneyball principles, and realizing you need a strong closer to be a strong team.
June 25, 200420 yr Beane rarely makes a dumb trade. I just love how he can nose his way into pretty much any trade.
June 25, 200420 yr This was Beane faulting on one of his Moneyball principles, and realizing you need a strong closer to be a strong team. lidge is a middle reliever closing for the astros...he should of just got lidge.
June 25, 200420 yr beane = overrated. lidge has been pushing dotel for this job the last month. from what i hear the astros were getting somewhat close to flip flopping the two in their roles. dotel just doesnt seem to have that closers mentality. if the astros still had wagner to go with everything else.......they would be up 8 games.
June 25, 200420 yr This was Beane faulting on one of his Moneyball principles, and realizing you need a strong closer to be a strong team. lidge is a middle reliever closing for the astros...he should of just got lidge. He never said you dont need a good closer. His principle is that closers are easy to find. That you can turn a mid relief or setup man into a closer. But I guess he messed up by signing Rhodes.
