Personal World Series stories

So I came up with the idea for this topic at 4 am as a thunderstorm slammed the Fenway . . .

My personal world series story

In 1997 I was working for Casino Miami, a boat that docked downtown. I had moved to Florida the year before, and one of the first friends I made was a bartender and rabid Marlins fan. This guy got me into watching the Marlins and going to games. I grew up in SE Texas (Go ?Stros!) so for the first time I had two favorite teams. The off-season was exciting when as the Fish got so many top players?.Then in 97 I got into the habit of hanging out in my friend?s bar on 21st Street on the Beach to watch the games with the regulars and a friend from the casino. As the season progressed we went to the stadium more often, up to 15 people for tailgating and cheering on the Fish. I remember one of the last regular season games against the Mets the crowd was big and excited?..and Liv?n pitched terribly but I was still happy anyway. I didn?t get to go to any more games until the NLCS against the Braves, when my casino buddy and I were able to get other coworkers to trade shifts with us so we could go to both Saturday night games. When the World Series tickets went on sale I was in line at noon getting as many tickets as I could for both Saturday games. We had the whole group together for the ultimate baseball games! Psyched beyond belief . . .

So this time my friend and I decided to call in sick for work so we could go to Game 1 of the 97 Series, hoping to make it less obvious by not asking anyone to trade shifts so we could go. However we were well known as Marlin fans, since we had been going to games all season and everybody in the casino was talking about the Marlins all the time! [Gratuitous gambling boat gossip: A Marlins insider who appears in the 97 parade video was a regular at the sportsbook.]

So we got up early that Saturday and went to PPS to kick it like only South Florida can . . .the excitement was incredible. We passed the Brazilian samba dancers on our way into the stadium. Our seats were just about as far away from the plate as possible, way up high near the spot they released the eagle during the pregame festivities. The game was great, the thrill of a lifetime.

The next day my friend and I reported to work to find out we?d been fired! (Nevermind the fact that others had called in sick/missed work/shown up drunk and were still working there.) The manager told us the big boss had ordered it, and to come back the next day to ask for our jobs back. I was not in the mood for a job search, so I went in with my friend and let him do the talking (let cooler heads prevail). The boss wouldn?t even talk to us, so we walked out the door, laughed, and went to the bar to watch the game. We were kind of glad we wouldn?t have to work for Game 6! Three days later we were offered our jobs back, on the condition we sign a written reprimand. I signed mine ?Let?s Go Fish!? and he wrote ?Go Marlins!? on his. And we DID trade shifts and go to Game 6, though we had to rush back downtown to work the graveyard shift on the casino boat.

Well my friend became my beau and six years later the Marlins were winning another World Series . . .I watched alone in my Boston apartment, then after it became reality the phone rang. It was 5 am in Nigeria and my boyfriend was calling to scream ?I CAN?T BELIEVE IT!!!? over and over.

What is YOUR personal world series story?

I went to game 5 against the bankees and i just remember the gasp when D.Lee made that AWESOME pick for the last out of Game 5. and the excitement in the air at PPS and thinking this is the ultimate prize after those horrible years of rebuilding.

I remember in '97 going crazy after the win. The next day at school was awesome. This girl was rooting for the Indians in one of my classes and we freaking bugged her. LOL

Last year was a lot of fun. I was screamin and jumping up and down once Josh got the last out. I put on my Pudge shirt and grabbed my Marlins car flag and ran down to 49th street in Hialeah with my Mom to celebrate with the rest of the city. Good times. The parade came and I had a blast w/ BB84 & FishFan24.

ok i know the thread is world series stories but....ive got a good nlcs story

i was in the car with my dad going to PPS for game 3 and all of a sudden i see these cubs fans and i just start staring at them and theyre staring back at me. then i get one of my marlins hankies (from nlds) and just put it up on the car window. they respond to that by doing some bulls*** where they pretend theyre reeling in a fish. then i just go into throat slash mode, which of course is followed by the choak signal. they had no answer to that and just sped up to get away from me. total pwnage right there

Similar story. I was at a gas station on LeJuene and 8th street when some dude wearing a Phillies jersey and hat walked by. I pointed at my jersey and did a choking gesture.

In 1997, the Marlins lost game 6 on my birthday. The next day they managed to win Game 7 on the birthday of Cleveland's manager.

Last year, the Marlins clinched the title with a Game 6 victory on my birthday, October 25th.

Slapshands and I had a great present :D

and dont forget that time the patron saint of hot dog vending sat watched the series with you.

game 3 of last year sticks out in my mind. not the game itself but that afternoon before the game. i was driving home from school and it hit me: the marlins are hosting a world series game again. i just got so happy and couldnt stop smiling. the last 5 years made it seem like this would never be possible again in miami at pro player and yet there they were. it was a great feeling.

93, I was six years old and at Disney's Port Orleans having an awesome time, what added to that was seeing my phils beat those damn bravos and head to the world series. Stayed close with The Jays having a one game advantage before going home but I was still extreamly excited.

I got home on the night and so tired I had to take a nap at 5. My parents never woke me to watch the game so I wake up on my own and walk into the living room where my dad is(dad's a r sox fan).

Sit down, first batter I see is Joe Carter and my dreams are dashed.

Enough said :(
