A lot of people kill this guy on the board and one even made a worst pitcher sig for him. The man does the job and it's not his fault all those times Jack had him in vs. Righties....Huge props go to Perisho for doin his job.

He's a great lefty specialist, the problem happens when he is taken out of the role he has flourished in.

Leave him in his element and he's great.

Lefties might only bat .162 against him, but their OPS is .664. That's still good but you'd expect better with a BAA of .162. He gives up too many walks to lefties (12 in 19 IP) and too many HRs (4 in 68 ABs). Nate Bump has walked less and given up fewer HRs to lefties in more lefty plate appearances.

Don't get me wrong - Perisho has done well against lefties but he's not as good as it would seem just by glancing at the BAA.

It looks like these left-handed NL relievers have done as well or better than Perisho against lefties this year:

Arizona: Stephen Randolph (.635 OPS - he's started a couple of games)

Cubs: Kent Mercker (.673 OPS)

Rockies: Javier Lopez (.651 OPS)

Expos: Joe Horgan (.595 OPS)

Mets: John Franco (.543 OPS)

Phillies: Rheal Cormier (.649 OPS)

Pirates: Mike Gonzalez (.454 OPS)

Giants: Jason Christiansen (.663 OPS)

Cards: Ray King (.404 OPS), Steve Kline (.458 OPS)

Perisho is a nice story. I wrote about him in Spring Training, mostly asking where does a guy with that kind of history come out looking "gang busters." He was great in ST and earned his spot.

A journeyman who found his spot at the right time.

Good for him! And us.

For Perisho's numbers now, you would've died for last season when we had that fat bloated corpse we call Almanza...

True.

Perisho, like most pitchers who only face a batter or two per outing, are going to have good inherited runner rates. They don't have the chance to screw things up too much.

For a while there Matt was walking guys to the clip of 5 per 9 IP and nearly pitchign hmself out of the league. Recently he's benn in good form and helping the Marlins win, which is all I ask from a player.

I posted herein two or three times during ST about the Perisho story and what he was (amazingly) doing.

Look into his story. It's about real baseball. No one herein wanted to talk about it last Spring.
