Posted September 24, 200420 yr This truly sucks, as far as I know the Methodman/Redman concert has also been postponed. That means FIU would have only one game under their belt by week 5. Also, FAU is expected to make an announcement today about their first home game with Illinois State. If that game is postponed as well, the FIU vs. FAU game would be moved to December 4th to make room for these games on November 20th. Thursday, September 23, 2004 Hurricane Jeanne Travel Concerns Postpone FIU Football vs. Western Kentucky Saturday's NCAA football game between Western Kentucky and Florida International University has been postponed after WKU officials decided against traveling into South Florida this weekend due to the potential threat from Hurricane Jeanne. "Obviously, we are very disappointed because there was a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding this game. We did not cancel the game. Western Kentucky felt it was in the best interest of their student-athletes not to travel into South Florida this weekend," said FIU Athletic Director Rick Mello. This is the second home opener canceled due to the weather. The Golden Panthers were scheduled to host Jacksonville on Sept. 2 when the game was canceled due to Hurricane Frances. With this weekend's postponement, FIU's first home game, and only its second contest of the 2004 season, will now take place on Saturday, Oct. 2 against Louisiana-Lafayette. "Our first priority is to get this game against Western Kentucky rescheduled; however, at this point any rescheduling will involve moving other games to accommodate both schools," said Mello. ?The decision to reschedule our football game versus Florida International University was not one that was made lightly or without considerable input from a variety of constituents. We had to prepare for the worst-case scenario of Hurricane Jeanne and the overriding safety concerns for our student-athletes, coaches and families traveling to the Miami area,? said Western Kentucky Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig. ?I truly feel for FIU and athletic director Rick Mello, as I know all the tremendous efforts that have been made for their 2004 home opener versus WKU. ?We do look forward to competing against FIU and a trip to the Miami area at a mutually agreeable date later in the season. We regret any inconvenience or change in plans such a decision may have caused.? The post-game concert, featuring Method Man and Redman, has also been postponed. A new date for the concert is expected to be released as soon as possible.
September 24, 200420 yr The concert has NOT been postponed yet... If it doesn't get cancelled, then be in the cage by 8:30pm

September 24, 200420 yr Author Sun-Sentinel article about FAU/FIU games this weekend: Owls wait to see; Panthers postpone By Ted Hutton -- Daniel Izquierdo Staff Writer Posted September 24 2004 BOCA RATON ? After dodging Hurricane Frances, it looks like Florida Atlantic will not escape Jeanne. FAU (3-0) will decide this morning whether to postpone Saturday's scheduled home opener against Illinois State (2-1). Unless Jeanne takes an unexpected turn, much of South Florida could be under a hurricane watch sometime today, and the game would likely be moved to Nov. 20, when the Owls are scheduled to play FIU. The FAU-FIU game would then move to Dec. 4, which is an open date for both teams. FAU President Frank Brogan was scheduled to meet with the university's Executive Council and Emergency Management Team at 8 a.m. to make a final decision. That would give Athletic Director Craig Angelos time to notify Illinois State before the Redbirds leave Normal. The swap with FIU benefits Illinois State, which could be in the I-AA playoffs, which begin Nov. 27. A postponement would give FAU two weeks off and give the Owls their first five games on the road. It would mean FAU would not open at home at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale until Oct. 23 against Louisiana-Monroe. FAU would then be back on the road for two more weeks, and would have played seven of its first eight games on the road before hosting New Mexico State Nov. 13. FAU's final four games would be at home. FAU played its season opener in Hawaii Sept. 4 while Frances was ravaging South Florida. When the Owls returned they found the campus closed due to power outages and storm damage, and spent the week before game at North Texas in a hotel. FIU postpones home opener again MIAMI? For the second time in less than a month, Florida International's home opener has been postponed because of a hurricane. Western Kentucky (2-1) officials canceled their trip to South Florida, citing uncertainty with Hurricane Jeanne. FIU (1-0) Athletic Director Rick Mello said there is a "decent chance" the game will be rescheduled with some clever maneuvering that would likely involve moving games around. "There are two things: We had a lot of momentum coming in, and in all my years around college football I've never heard of a team coming into week five with one game under its belt," Mello said. "Obviously, we are very disappointed because there was a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding this game." FIU's first home game will be Oct. 2 against Louisiana-Lafayette. Their original opener set for Sept. 2 against Jacksonville was canceled because of Hurricane Frances.
