July 6, 200322 yr I think the player like playing for him and he is a good motivator. He has seen probably every situation that can occur in a Baseball game. The Marlins FO should consider bringing him back.
July 6, 200322 yr there is no reason for him to be fired or not retained. just like there was no real reason for him to lose his job in cincy in the late 90s.
July 6, 200322 yr whys that? Loria, Beinfest, and Samson have their own little club, and they don't want anyone else to join. There's a reason they never told Jeff anything about the teams financial situations, ect, and why they're doing the same to Jack. They don't want some "outsider" to intrude on what their plans or ideas for the team are. The question is, what are those ideas and plans?
July 6, 200322 yr if the marlins front office are committed to winning why would you get rid of a man that has totally turned around your baseball team?
July 6, 200322 yr Mackeon is old he may not want to come back. Is up to him if he wants to come back not the FO.
July 6, 200322 yr Mackeon is old he may not want to come back. Is up to him if he wants to come back not the FO. no its a joint decision between the both of them
July 6, 200322 yr I told you all this earlier, and you all said no. I said if he won (which he has) he would be retained past this season. He is a good manager and can get things working. Imagine if we had him last year? We could have been more productive than we were. A manager is an important person in baseball, and don't let this old gem get away just because of age.
July 6, 200322 yr It wouldn't have mattered last year. They still traded Cliffy when we were winning...
July 6, 200322 yr It wouldn't have mattered last year. They still traded Cliffy when we were winning... i really dont think cliff was that big part of the team as mikey is this year. although mikey stats are better its more than just stats what mike brings to this team. i dunno i loved cliff floyd but i would be f***ing heart broken if lowell got traded i dont think luis or d.lee will ber traded i know that i am getting off topic so i'm gonna rap it up
July 6, 200322 yr I think if we keep playing baseball like this that "inevitability" of Castillo and/or Lee being traded might be slowly deteriorating. And in no way was Floyd as important last year as Mike has been this year, but none the less it still hurt the team when he left us...
July 6, 200322 yr Cliffy wasn't contributed anywhere near the amount Lowell is. I believe that Floyd was either injured or an injury waiting to happen.
July 7, 200322 yr there is no reason for him to be fired or not retained. just like there was no real reason for him to lose his job in cincy in the late 90s. precisely. I'm waiting to read all the local a-hole columnists who made about 100 jokes about McKeon's age turn around and say how great he is... I don't necessarily think he's done anything terribly different with the club (having Willis certainly would've helped Torborg out), but he's got them playing confident, and whatever it is he's doing, he's got my vote to stick around!

Imagine if we had him last year? We could have been more productive than we were. A manager is an important person in baseball, and don't let this old gem get away just because of age. Still don't think he'll be back. Whether it's of his own choosing or not, there are going to be several high quality managers avaiable this off-season, and alot of theses managers would now probably like the idea of coming to FL since the team is showing alot pf promise.' AS for McKeon's success...I'm reminded of Mark Grace's thoughts on managers....That a great manager, at most, is responsible for maybe 5 wins a season.
July 7, 200322 yr I do not think the Marlins will hire a high priced manager. If managers only account for 5-10 wins per year, why pay for a name. The youth of this team needs a figure who can provide positives and bring team concept/chemistry. McKeon seems to be doing a decent job at this. I do believe the Marlins will stay within the organization for the next manager. McKeon will be part of the Marlins, in what capacity is the question.
July 7, 200322 yr I would keep McKeon, he has shown he can still win at the age of 72. The guy is sharper than other managers that are probably younger than he is. At least he is much better than Torborg and Boles. The guy is a baseball encyclopedia for christ's sake!!! I am all for signing him for a 2 year extension, really...
