I have a question about the Tigers.. Where are they getting all this money to throw at free agents? I'm sure some contracts are off their payrolls, but who's?

Last year, they signed a few people (Pudge included). This year, they've already signed Percival and it seems like they're talking to all the free agents. Pavano was offered a big contract, Steve Finley was offered a contract, and now they're talking to Troy Glaus as well.

Illitch (spelling) has decided since he isn't paying 100 million to the Red Wings for the next two years he has a lot of money to play around with. And money is baseball goes a lot futher than hockey.

I say look for Detroit to improve considerablly the next few years.

Last season's payroll was the same as 2003's. We lost the ridiculous contracts of Dean Palmer, Steve Sparks, Craig Paquette, Shane Halter and other bums.

This offseason, we are done paying Damion Easley his absurd salary to play for you guys, and also Matt Anderson and Danny Patterson, 2 worthless relief pitchers making over 6 million combined, have their contracts leave the books. In order to sign people this offseason, we will probably have to raise payroll.

But we lose a lot of contracts next season, Bobby Higginson (finally!), Ugueth Urbina, Rondell White, Jason Johnson, Fernando Vina etc.

I give kudos to the Tigers for not settling for crappiness and going out to grab some key guys.

I agree... It looks like the Tigers will continue to improve for the next couple of years... Dombrowski is a great GM. If he has the funding, he can put a great team together.

Whatever happened to Bobby Higginson anyways??

1 year in his whole career that he hit over .300. And only one year where he hit 30 hrs. And not to mention back to back years of sub .250 batting and a total of 26 hr and 116 rbis in two years is not all that much to note.

Yeah, I know his all-star caliber numbers didn't last very long, but what happened to him? Is he hurt? Playing in the Minor Leagues, Independent Leagues, is he a bank teller??

he played last year for the Tigers

I just looked at his stats.... He's been with them all along. I could have sworn he was hurt or something... Talk about flying under the radar...

He was supposed to be the next Yankee LF before Matsui came over.
