This kid has some pop off his bat, but looking at our INF reserves Easley/Niner are locks does Delgado make it?...where does Dillon fit? IMO you MAKE A SPOT available for this kid

LOL

Nice choices :lol

But yes I have been impressed by both his approach at the plate as well as his defense. He's going to make it IMO.

There ya go.

Lets figure we carry 13 position players:

The starting 8:

JP

Louie

Cabs

Carlos

Mikey

Paul

Juan

Seabass

That leaves 5 bench spots:

Niner (For 1b defensive replacement)

Easley (Backup infiedler)

Treanor (and/or) Willingham (Backup catcher (s))

Aguila (backup OF)

Lenny (a lefty off of the bench since we have none other)

The only way I see Dillion making the opening day roster is that they decide to only carry 4 OFers and not carry Aguila. Or that they carry 14 position players and 6 relievers.

As much as I like Lenny him not being on the team would probably be for the best.

It would be nice if could give a roster spoit to Dillon or Willingham but right now barring any sort of injury there just isn't room

Then we have no lefty to come off the bench. Even if e doesn't hit, you can throw him up there to make the other team pull a right handed reliever and make them put in a lefty before putting in another PH.

So you are advocating cutting the top pinch hitter in the history of baseball (and the only lefty off the bench) for a guy who never had an AB in the major leagues, has a history of back problems and was an assistant coach at Texas Tech two years ago?

I say Dillon should go back to "Burque until we have an injury.

Yes

Also for those who think Dillion should be on the roster in place of Lenny:

Which would benefit Dllion more? Playing everyday in AAA, or at best getting 4 ABs a week on the ML club? I doubt even that much, that is a best case scenario really.

Lenny is used to sitting on the bench and having to hit when called upon, its his job. Plus Lenny is our only lefty.

that argument never fails to give me a hearty laugh out loud.

Dillon is 29...at his age playing in the minors won't't really benefit him. He probably will not get much better even if he did have 4 at bats every day.

I am confident Dillon would be able to hit .232 pinch hitting.

If it comes down to Dillon or Willingham, I would rather see Willingham make the team. If you are looking at pinch-hitting, I think Willingham would be a more logical choice because of his impressive OBP (led Southern League with .449) combined with the power numbers. Dillon?s numbers are stout in their own right, but the difference is JW?s ability to be patient and to draw the walk when the pitch is not there combined with his ability to be aggressive and hit the ball hard when it the pitch is there. This shows up especially in the walk to strike out ratio where:

Willingham had 91 BB and 87 SO

Dillon had 46 BB and 86 SO

JW also seems more versatile in the field (though neither will be picked up for the their defensive prowess).

Great point...watching Willingham play 1B today, I feel he'll get the last spot "IF" he hits. But Treanor could also get beat out for the catcher position which could give Dillon a shot. I just feel this kid could be another Millar a non-prospect that just pushes his way onto the ML roster with his power JMO

Where's he going to play?

Admittedly, I'm not sure about this, but I don't think he's faster or more defensively capable than Aguila, so that's the tie-breaker.

No.

Harris has the reputation and relationships.

Wathan, Delgado, Wilson and Willngham are more versatile and can play positions few others can.

Aguila had a respectable cup of coffee last year and brings more to the table.
