March 11, 2005

finally our offense came alive. at first it looked like it was going to be another blowout game. leiter gave up 6 or 7 in the 2nd inning. when that happens, teams usually back off and just give up. but the fish kept plugging away and came from behind a few innings later. reliever kurt ainsworth gave up 6 or 7 himself in one inning and next thing you know the fish were on top. there's a phrase that comes to mind in games like this - stop the bleeding. for those of you who don't know what that is, it basically means do whatever you can to get out of the inning. once a team gets momentum and a little confidence on their side, one inning can turn into a disaster. cabrera had an explosive day with 2 doubles and a monster home run to left center field. that's only the fish's 2nd homerun of the spring. delgado was back in the lineup for the first time in a while, but he didn't do much at the plate. he struck out looking his first time up and then flew out to left field the next time around.

earlier in the day there was a B game on the backfield in which treanor and myself caught. valdez got a chance to see some hitters and pitch in a game situation. he didn't do too bad (unless you count the 2 RBI double that i mashed to left center off him. haha). i thought he changed speeds very well even though he doesn't throw that hard. he's one of those guys you just have to wait back on. y'all should see him make his first grapefruit league appearance sometime next week - maybe in the split squad game on tuesday. luke hagerty attempted to throw one inning, but was unsuccessful once again. i think he walked 6 or 7 in a row before they finally called the inning. it's weird because he looks fine during warm-up pitches, but then when a batter gets in the box his mind takes over and he just can't throw strikes. almost like a rick ankiel thing - but i doublt you'll see hagerty attempting to change positions anytime soon. also hermida had 2 bombs - one to right center, and next at bat one to left field. i told him there no way he could clear the green monster in center, because there's only one man that can do that......me.

firday was also payday and they sent some people back down to camp. it's kinda sad when people get sent down, even though i know i'll be seeing them next week or the week after that because it's bound to happen to myself. they took mike flannery off the roster and he cleared waivers. what's funny is it takes 72 hours to clear waivers. so if he cleared yesterday (when they first told him), then they must have taken him off tuesday or wednesday and not told him - not a very professional thing to do in my opinion, but that's business i guess.

sorry for getting to y'all so late. it's actually saturday morning and i just woke up. i'm about to head to the field to do my usual routine - get dressed, eat a little, stretch, hit in the cages, shower, maybe eat a little more, and then wait for our "meeting". more on my eating later. :)

hahaha owned

Anyways looks like no way Hagerty will be on the opening day roster with his performances so far.

Another good journal Jorg...thanks

Well, I'll tell you one thing, Treanor and Difelice aren't exactly taking charge in that backup backstop race. So I wouldn't count you out just yet Jorg. Just keep playing the way you're playing and they'll have a hard decision come opening day.

I really didn't expect much from Hagerty this spring, but 6 or 7 walks in a row that's ridiculous.

this kinda log is great, it really makes you feel like you "know" one of the ballplayers... and it makes you pull all the harder for them to make the squad... good luck Jorgy... Im gonna make sure to try to see you at a game... you might be able to spot me, I might wear a Mario Bros shirt :D

yeah agreed I haven't seen anyone go out & really win the job, so if Jorgy keeps playing well who knows? Treanor went hitless in the game today & threw out a runner. Is DiFelice injured? I haven't even heard his name mentioned much.

haha. cute entry. nice to see ya again at the game today, sorry we couldn't get a pic with you after it. you caught very well in the pen.

you ain't gonna get sent down boy. we won't allow it.
