PBMarlin
Smooth delivery, smooth appearance for Willis By Joe Capozzi Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Friday, March 11, 2005 VIERA ? Left-hander Dontrelle Willis' delivery is smoother this spring than it was last year. His appearance on the mound has been neater as well. The secret? "They got a longer jersey for me. I'm tucking it in my sliding shorts,'' Willis said after allowing two hits in four scoreless innings in the Marlins' 5-3 against the National on Thursday. Aside from his legs and knees delivery, Willis has been known for his animated demeanor on the mound, which included his game jersey flying out over his belt. Umpires often would stop the game and tell him to tuck it back in, interrupting his rhythm. "We ordered him a longer shirt,'' manager Jack McKeon said. About 2 inches longer. And this spring, it has stayed in his pants and kept those blue-uniformed fashion police off his back. "If an umpire has to continually tell you to tuck your jersey in, and you're getting ready to go pitch and you're looking like a penguin with your jersey out,'' he said, concentrating on the batter is tougher. Willis has not allowed an earned run in eight innings in two Grapefruit League starts. Link to full article

MarlinsChik305
Finally. His appearance was so sloppy last year with his shirt stickinng out. Glad to hear it.
Flag Man
Forgive me. My first reaction is that D-Train should get even. Like leaving his fly open to distract hitters and umpires. Other thoughts too but not appropriate herein. Thank God, Dontrelle has Class and doesn't need appearance to WIN.
