PhishPhan
Time: 12:01 am ET Monday (In about 15 minutes) Channel: C-Span/Cnn(/FoxNews? [they aren't covering it yet]) If the bill is passed it will allow Bush to sign the bill and presumablly be able to re-insert Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. If it does not pass look for another attempt and bill to be passed in senate tomorrow, log jamming legislative bodies all the more.

PhishPhan
damn you Phish I was working on a paper.... 716497 Haha. It'll only be another 20 minutes. I hope it gets shot down. If not I hope the greater powers strike Terri down with natural causes and makes all of this a moot point and end her suffering.

PhishPhan
They have gone into overtime. Some more notes: Terri's cerebral cortex has turned to liquid, the part of the brain that senses and feels pain, such as starvation. 5 court appointed doctors, 2 for the husband's side, 2 for the family's side and 1 independent doctor all have said she is a vegtable and non-responsive. PhishPhan
What now? According to CNN and Fox News: Bush will sign the bill into law. The law will be faxed to the lawyers and two courts in Florida, one of which the Federal court in Tampa. There will be a lottery to decide which Judge gets the case. And then the judge will look at the case and decide if there is a reason it should be heard. This process may take as much as 48 hours and the feeding tube will not be replaced until a judge accepts the case and feels it should be heard, if one does at all. To put the tube back in Terri will have to be taken to a hospital to have it internally placed and then stay in the hospital for another day or two to recover. This would be the 4th time she would have the tube replaced if it comes to that. Congress has set a scary precedent. Family rights are all but completely weakend. Will congress now nudge itself into all family disputes of this nature? How is this safe? And what about state rights? And what about the Florida people? Or the Florida justice system? How about the the National Supreme Court? All were spit upon tonight. A number of scary messages have been sent tonight. We tell other nations to live by laws, good laws, meanwhile our Capitol Hill thumbed their noses at our own laws.

PhishPhan
Wow I didnt even know Congress passed laws this early in the morning. 716555 It was a special session, they were off for the week for Easter. But even when in session they are up late at night, maybe not always this late, but 10-11pm is no shock.
PhishPhan
Bush signed the bill into law at 1:11 am per CNN. Fox News is re-airing Geraldo at Large w/ Jose "Josie" Canseco.
FutureGM
This is not good news for states' rights. If they manage to get the feeding tube put back in, that means that Congress will now have the power to overturn any court case they don't agree with. I can't believe that they have ignored the medical experts who all say that she has irreversable brain damage. Plus, she has been like this for 15 years now! Her parents need to let go, and realize that their daughter has been gone for 15 years. One last comment for people that think she should be left alive: If it wasn't for modern technology, which allows her to stay alive, she would have died naturally close to 15 years ago. Therefore, keeping her alive goes against nature itself.

You critisize republicans for advocating federalism in this case, which is against what the party stands. But you who does not usually advocate states rights is doing so now b/c it suits your own belief. Either way the bill passed like 200-50. The reasont he nay voters showed up to vote is b/c they need to show constituents with the world watching that they are fighting for what they believe in
