MikeLowell
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Federal authorities have deported 39 illegal immigrants who were arrested this week after being discovered at a Las Cruces motel. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found 30 men, five women and four children inside four rooms at the Bruce Motel on Wednesday. The immigrants told authorities their smuggler had abandoned them after dropping them off at the motel the day before. Each had paid between $1,800 and $2,100 to be brought into the United States. Agents determined the immigrants were from Mexico. They were deported Wednesday night. Officials say an investigation into smuggling in southern New Mexico will continue. Immigration also found a stack of Wal-Mart job applications.
