July 25, 200322 yr This question started to bother me so I've decided to take a look at who we are potentially after and who we should and shouldnt get. **Reggie Sanders - (.799OPS, 16HR, 21BB, 79K) A steak hitter who K's a lot. Probably the cheapest option, but also the least desirable IMO. He has a speed (6SB) and a good arm in the OF. *Probably would cost us an A-baller or a mid level prospect...grade C- **Rondell White - (.802OPS, 16HR, 22BB, 53K) Hits for less power, but strikes out less and gets on base more. Much more expensive then Sanders so we could either give up a lesser prospect, but would cost us more from the bank. Grade B **Matt Stairs - (.952, 12HR, 21BB, 38K) After Hotcorner suggested this guy I got all excited and almost pooped myself. I'd love to keep Cabs up because I think he has nothing else to learn in the minors. Hes been pressing and going for all the big hits....Stairs is the solution...He bombs the poop out of righties (.935OPS) while Cabs is bombing lefties (1.000OPS) Its also the cheapest solution! I love it! Do this deal ASAP! Grade A+++ **Brian Giles - durr...get him of course, but I'm talking about likely options...although he might be a possibility.

July 25, 200322 yr no no, leave dereck at first base, he isnt going anywhere, this matt stairs idea is GREAT, stairs against righties, cabs against lefties, hollandsworth is 4th outfielder, man, i hope FO has considered stairs and is looking at him as an option....he would be a perfect fit....

You would bench a guy with 21HR's? Beyond ridiculous.
July 25, 200322 yr According to today's Sun-Sentinel, John Vander Wal and Jose Guillen are out there, too.
July 25, 200322 yr The guy that is #1 on my list is Guillen of guys we could possibly acquire. Of course Giles would be my #1 but there's no way we can get him. Stairs and White would also be good acquisitions and I would love to have either one of them.
July 25, 200322 yr Vanderwal's a good DH but is he really a big upgrade over Hollandsworth? Actually I don't even know how much of an upgrade Stairs is from Holly, but he's got more power definately. Lol, don't poop yourself over it Sham... Stairs had a great start to the season, but if you take a bigger sample, say last 3 years combined, he's about at .820 OPS vs righties. I still think it's not a bad idea though. I'd put Guillen and White at the top of the list, but it depends on how much the FO is willing to offer for a rental player. Guys like Stairs or Sanders would cost less & would be more suited to platoon with Cabs out there.
July 25, 200322 yr 1. Giles 2. Guillen 3. White 4. Stairs 5. Sanders 6. Vanderwal Thats my list of who i want most to least :thumbup

July 25, 200322 yr Matt Stairs I never really thought of, but brings all the things we need to the team. A) Lefty Bat B) Veteran Leadership C) PERFORMANCE Vander Wal and Sanders wouldn't be bad either. But like everyone has said, Guillen is atop my list. I wouldn't want Rondell White if he costs that much. I think Stairs or Sanders would be much cheaper, and a a tad worse. If anything, Stairs is better than White statistically.
