PHILADELPHIA -- In Tuesday's 9-3 win at Colorado, Luis Castillo delivered an RBI triple in the seventh inning.

Rounding second and sprinting towards third, the Marlins swift second baseman felt a twinge in his right hamstring. Still feeling a bit tender, Castillo was held out of the lineup Friday night at Philadelphia.

Depending on how he responds, he could miss more than one game.

"I don't know," Castillo said of when he will be ready. "It's a little sore. Maybe tomorrow. We'll see how I feel. Today I feel a little bit better."

The frosty conditions in Colorado didn't help Castillo, who constantly plays through nagging leg and hip ailments. He hasn't had the same burst of speed he enjoyed in his younger days after undergoing a scope on his left hip following the 2002 season.

To preserve Castillo, manager Jack McKeon has planned on giving the two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winning second baseman some periodic days off.

Castillo was in the lineup on Wednesday in Colorado, and felt discomfort fielding a ball in a game that was eventually called off due to snow. The 35-degree wintry weather hurt his efforts to warm up.

Damion Easley started in Castillo's place on Friday, and will get the nod if the injury lingers another day or two.

"He's all right, but he's not playing today," McKeon said. "He's had that hip flexor. We'll give him another day. We'll see how he is. I'd rather have him in there. But if he's hurting, he's hurting."

Get Well Soon Luis :)

Better to play it safe than to push him...

Especially if Easley performs like he did last night on both sides.

Hope Castillo gets back soon

We are very fortunate to have a capable sub like Easley who can play both middle and corner infield. He's got some nice pop in his bat for a 2nd hitter.

I agree.Of course I would love to see Luis back in the lineup, but it's nice to know we have someone as dependable as Easley. :thumbup

Does anyone have any more info on Luis and his hip?.. he really looked like he was hurting :(

I really hope he is okay :prayer

probably out of the line up tomorrow

Thank god for Easley :thumbup

We are so lucky to have Easley.

very true

I was watching the game on Extra Innings (Turner South), and they zoomed in on Luis when he was taken into the club-house, and he really looked like he didn't want to be taken out of the game. Even during the game, he routinely said "I'm ok" or "it's fine," so I think he was willing to play hurt. The offday on Thursday may make the decision less clear cut, but I think Castillo'll be out there tomorrow, and at the very least, Jack'll have to sit him...Luis won't sit himself.

But, either way, thank God for Easley.

He'll sit tomorrow... It's a day game, and Thursday is an off day. He'll get back-to-back days off. Book it.

Shouldn't be too much of a bother. He doesn't rely as much on his legs now batting from the 2-hole. Tonight was a perfect example. Solid hits, excellent pitch recognition and smart baserunning.

Well put. Scoring from first on a double could catch up with him though, especially if it's his right hip that's bothering him.

His average is up to .299. We need him in the lineup even though Easley has hit well lately.

I love to see Luis in the lineup, but I really hope that they dont try and push him too much. I would rather him miss a game or two here than to miss a few games down the stretch in September. So for now I say let Easley play.

he seems to have reaggravated that hammy last night. We need to rest him till hes at 100%. The prob is pulled hamstrings are annoying as hell and sometimes you feel healthier than you really are. The hammy problem will probably linger for a bit

:mad Not good. We need Castillo to be healthy and contributing.

I'm glad that we have a capable infielder in Easley to fill in for Castillo, but its not the same. Hopefully this doesn't prove troublesome down the stretch when we need all the guys to be healthy.

No, supposedly this time it's his left side, not his right side...

So he has 2 bad hammys now? Just great...

Not a hammy, his left quad...
