 If this is true he goes right up there with Chris Burgess! Slash his tires! :plain

Good Luck Shav!

*Shocked*

This is arrogance, pure and simple. Sure, he could have displayed it on the court last season, but no. He obviously doesn't think he can get any playing time behind Shelden and Josh, so he's saying, "Screw it." What is he trying to accomplish from this, demonstrating that he could be rated 1 spot behind the last pick of the 2nd round rather than off everyone's radar screen? I don't know if I should wish him the best if this is his true personality.

I'm not really sure what his intentions are. I mean he can't really expect to be drafted, unless he's utterly delusional. Some have suggested he's just trying to keep his name out there, some have suggested he's doing it so he can participate in the workouts and get some feedback.

I'd be a little surprised if he's not in a Duke uni next year.

I dont think hes coming back.

He is 9 hours away from his degree, so he basically has nothing left at Duke besides rotting behind Shelden and McRoberts. Plus, the Randolphs do have a financial struggle as of late.

Ive been hearing that the Randolph family is in the 'know' with several NBA GMs. Look at picks 46, 54, 58, and 59. Hes a huge gamble, and a gamble few if any 2nd round teams with picks would take.

But you have to remember this guy was top 15 out of high school for his supposed versitality - ability to post up and shoot a three.

The guy has more bad luck than any player Ive seen in a while. His first game ever at Duke he had something along the lines of 22 and 11. He then had tons of injury related problems, and his times of good health came at the wrong times as well.

Sophomore Year - Recovers from surgery, starts under Luol Deng. Deng doesnt lose starting role and wins ACC FOY. Shavlik for the most part is on the outside looking in.

Junior Year - Healthy and shows signs of improvement, gets Mono, takes a few weeks to recover, plays well in spurts towards the end of the year. Body never in the shape it was coming into the year.

Im not going to condem a kid who nearly has a degree and his family needs/could need the money. Worst case scenario - he plays overseas and earns a decent/low end 6 figure a year deal. Im also not going to give him crap before he signs an agent. If he wants to play against some really good competition he is unfamiliar with, the only way he can do that legally is to file the paper work for the draft.

Coach K's single line quote makes me think Shav def. wants to become a professional player somewhere next season. Im thinking that his stock only gets worse under the probable ACC DPOY and FOY. Plus it will become even more evident even healthy, that he simply doesnt fit into the Duke system. Duke has never had success for average low post players who cant run the floor with their guards all that well.

It would be one thing if he could get up and down and stay out of floor trouble consistently, but after three years, I still dont think that will change.

This doesnt affect Duke in 2006 that much IMO. Instead, Coach K doesnt have to toy with Randolph or split more minutes up and instead will let McRoberts grow all by himself. This also moves personal favorite Jamal Boykin much higher on the depth chart. This kindof reminds me of the Mike Thompson situation in that if he really wants out, let him out, wish him luck and move on. No sense in having a sad player be a downer for the entire team. Bad karma/chemistry is never good for a team zeroing in on a potential national championship.

I can see the pros and cons to this decision and I will respect either way he goes. He still donned that Blue Devil uniform and for me that will always make him part of that royal blue family and I will root for him always.

Well, I'm not upset at his decision. He can do whatever he wants.

If he stayed at Duke, he'd still get some pretty good minutes, I think, and have a chance to kind of prove himself.

I don't know why any overseas team would offer him six figures, unless that's actually the going minimum over there...I don't know if he can make a squad really. There are a lot of good college players playing overseas, a lot of players who had much better college careers than Shav.

The Euros will bleed for 'name' Americans.

And I think actually, K will of had enough of him half way through this season if he doesnt produce, and not play him. Look how many minutes Deng was getting as a Frosh, and on a team even deeper next year, minutes will be less all around.

UPDATE...

Kenny Randolph said his son was "absolutely not" hiring an agent and that he expects the 6-foot-10 forward to return to the Blue Devils for his senior season. By not signing with an agent, Randolph can attend workouts with NBA teams while leaving open an option to drop out of the draft by June 21 and return to school.

"Nobody's saying he's not coming back to Duke," Kenny Randolph said. "He's very happy at Duke University. He's very honored to be part of the program. ... It's just all about competing and getting better and seeing how good you've got to get."

Wow, I typed alot for nothing.

And play on a perimeter oriented team?

He sucks, i'm not sure what GM would want him attending his teams workouts....

Sounds like an April Fools Joke to me.

You even know how a pre-draft camp works?

No, but i'd assume nobody would wanna waste their time with a 6/4 per game big man who can't stay out of foul trouble....

Even if they dont give a rats ass about him..they still fill out an evaluation sheet on him, and have to watch him do drills regardless if they want to. Its like a combine.

And again, he isnt trying to make the NBA and hes not fooling himself.
