Posted May 28, 200519 yr Should have went after this guy if he was this available. I know how bad he has been in Chicago but trust me he was put into a situation he wasn't comfortable with. He was a lights out setup man in Minnesota and the Cubs were always trying to force the closers role on him, and it just didn't work. And everyone treated him like crap here. Would have been a good bullpen pickup and it would have allowed us to dump the human wasteland that is Nate Bump. We'll be ok without him, but it could have been a nice addition to the weakest point of the team.

May 28, 200519 yr This is true.> he got traded for Jerome Williams and some other dude.. Not surprised at all.. Cant say I'm surprised.. Hawkins could need a change of scenary (sp). I like Jerome Williams and the other kid I don't know about. I never ever once thought the Cubs used LaTroy right. Of course this sounds like a desperate move for the Giants but how can you blame em for Bonds being gone, Schmidt coming off the DL, Benitez out? They needed to make a move. It's one of those trades at the end of the day that could help BOTH teams IMHO!
May 28, 200519 yr are you s***ting me? Jerome Williams and David Aardsma? holy s*** STEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL for the Cubs
May 28, 200519 yr Nate Bump is at least an average major league reliever and I'm happy to have him. We don't need anymore arms because all our injured players are coming back. Were the situation different I'd say, yes.
May 28, 200519 yr are you s***ting me? Jerome Williams and David Aardsma? holy s*** STEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL for the Cubs 786789[/snapback] :o :o :o  WTF are the Giants thinking? This can't be true.
May 28, 200519 yr Can someone get me a link here? As a fantasy baseball player in desperate need of a reliever, i need to know who i should be picking up!
May 28, 200519 yr Aardsma has a got a cannon and Williams, if he can get it together, will be a nice player for the Cubs. Hawkins just needed a change of scenery so I think it could work out alright for both teams.
May 28, 200519 yr brian...sabean...is...a...f***ing....dumbass :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead i just hope felipe has the sense not to use him as closer
May 28, 200519 yr Great move by the Cubbies. Dumped Hawkins' contract, picked up a young starter who has had success and can step in now with Prior out AND a potential future closer.

May 28, 200519 yr They are the Cubs, who found a way to screw up Alfonseca and Clement for a class a pitcher (who turned out to be Willis) so I will withhold judgement on this trade, but it looks great for them on the surface and could really help them contend in future seasons.
May 28, 200519 yr This was a pretty desperate move by the Giants, but not as bad as everyone is making it seem. Hawkins is a good pitcher and will help the Giants bullpen. Jerome Williams hasn't been the pitcher we thought he would be. He's still young, but the Giants have enough good pitching in the minors to take a gamble. I am pretty disappointed that Aardsma was let go, but again, this was a desperate move.  I'm anxious to see what Sabean's next move is. I wouldn't be surprised if something else is announced tonight or tomorrow. I trust him.
