This season is playing out eerily JUST like last year's Houston Astros.

1)Picked my most media to win the division coming into the 2004 season

2)Added pitching and offense, but while the starting pitching was ok despite some on and off injuries to co -ex-Yankee (to Clemens) Pettitte, it was the bullpen that caused the Astros headaches but more than that it was the stuggling offense who were among the leaders in leaving runners stranded in scoring position, in fact they were 19th in the NL in runs scored at midseason.

They brough in Beltran, who struggled early on thus not really helping out initially. The struggles continued for a while long after the allstar break

3)Turmoil and strife began to swirl around the team and amongst the fans.

4) Broadcasters continually pointed out how the Astros offense seemed to strand runners in scoring position every game to the point that it became ridiculous.Fans were booing loudly at every time this happened. The broadcasters were perplexed about how often hard hit balls would seemingly land right in the hands of the opposing team..time after time after time!

5) They fired their manager, hitting coach, and pitching coach

In the end, by late July or early August, the Houston Astros turned it around and batted balls were now suddenly finding the holes and in timely situations.Things came together and they made an amazing run to make the post season.

You can never give up on the season especially when you know you have the talent.

The question is, do the Marlins make those same changes as the Astros did which led to the turn around last season??

That is a little bit on the odd side. :mischief2

Just change the hitting coach and things will turn around.

there isnt a big guy like carlos beltan thats gonna be floaing around at the deadline

the bigest name off the top of my head is Mike Sweeney. And we certainly have no holes to fill at 1b. But hey, you never know...

Unless they can make a trade for someone like Clemons I see little in common to the Stros of last year.

What is on the odd side? It happened my friend. This is NOT fantasy baseball.I have no life dude and watched 1000 games on the dish including alot of Houston games last season and I recall the announcers for that team stating the same stuff were are talking about right now. And then after that weird Cubs incident at Wrigley with the bean ball wars...it woke them up.Garner (the new manager) was NOT making an impact on the team initially. Sometimes it is not managerial changes or coaching changes that does it. A brawl will do it.

Let's see one this weekend! A bloody f***ing brawl and you will see things will turn around.

We need some kind of wake up call.

The scary thing is - we got our Beltran before the season started with Delgado.Houston lacked that one big bat coming in. We did not.

Lowell's slump actually takes away that third big bat we were missing last season.

So,if he does not continue to turn it around...as he seems to be doing....then we should go after someone like Sweeney. Can he play the outfield?

We've got the guys. Now they just have to get it done.

do I have to remind you we're at .500, the 2003 Marlins were much worse off when they fired Torborg, THEN went in a tailspin with Jack to start

have some faith

No doubt this team is capable. The $90 question is will they play to their potential?

he has only played C and 1B, although most plays can transition easily into LF and Cabs could move to 3B

too bad wed have to trade the Isotopes to get Sweeney
