Flamarlins3
MIAMI -- Florida Marlins right-hander Josh Beckett was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The move is retroactive to Wednesday. Beckett developed the blister on Tuesday, leaving after 5 1/3 innings of the Marlins' 14-0 loss at the Cubs. It's the eighth trip to the disabled list for Beckett, who's in his fourth full major-league season. Six of those stints have been because of blisters. Florida recalled right-hander Nate Bump from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace Beckett on the roster. Beckett, the 2003 World Series MVP, is 7-5 with a 3.35 ERA this season. Bump was 0-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 21 relief appearances for Florida earlier this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2088645 I guess no surprise really. Hopefully Josh will be back by beginning of July
RockyMountainMarlin
Did Bump "master his slider"? Or how about masters any pitch for that matter? Hurry back Josh.
Accord
He's averaging 2 stints on the DL per season, unacceptable for someone who is supposed to be our ace.
rferry
Hopefully he won't go on the DL again the start after he returns.
Marlins2003
Thankfully, Bump isn't going into the rotation. Give him some more time to work in the bullpen to work on his pitches.
PBMarlin
Bump was the best choice of pitchers to call up.
Guest FishFanInPA
I see the time in the minors really helped Nate out.....c'mon defend him now.
Marlins
I'm not going on the DL three times with a blister -Josh Beckett He also said he'll throw in the bullpen when he feels confident about how the finger will respond. Anyways, we shouldn't have got rid og Bump in the first place, so it's nice to bring him back. I'd much rather have him than Perisho or anyone else there. And hopefully Beckett won't miss more than 3 starts...

And you want people to defend him? Terrible performance by him. Terrible. Shouldn't be in the majors. Shouldn't even be in AAA. Terrible. Marlins2003
I still don't understand the support for him. There are hundreds of relievers out there that can match his skill. 817784[/snapback] While I think your number is an exaggeration (to make a point), that is what Nate Bump is, an average, going to do well one day, not the next, can't really handle pressure cooker well, but won't humiliate himself either, pitcher. They come, they go. They are interchangeable on this team and every team in baseball. The game can't survive without them. Imagine how boring the game would be if every pitcher was Bob Gibson incarnate. Or Lee Smith.

MarlinsContinueTo ShowDomi
On paper bump didn't do well, but it wasn't as if they were hitting balls to the warning track either. Bump isn't great, but better than guys like Travis Smith and Perisho.
