"Oh Say Can You Sing" is a new CD of hit songs and original compositions performed by 10 current Major League players and Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. The concept behind this CD is rather brilliant in itself. It allows the listener to hear the guys they watch take the field -- give it a go with a microphone.

Before listening to the CD, I thought I would be in for a joke CD of sorts with poor performances from Major Leaguers who think they can sing. Well, I was very very wrong. These guys surprised me in a big way. They not only didn't embarass themselves but they did a very nice job with it. This is not a gimmick, it's a really professional CD that allows us fans to see the players in a new light. They had fun putting together this CD, and it shows in their interviews on the included DVD and in their voices on the audio tracks.

The DVD that is included only added to the package. I loaded the DVD into my player and watched the Behind the Scenes section first. In this section, the players are interviewed about how they were approached to put together this CD. Along with this, clips of the players recording their songs is shown. It was a nice bonus to be able to see the production taking place. The players all voiced the same sentiments -- they enjoy music and they wanted to do this because it would be fun for the fans. They were certainly right about that when it comes to this fan. The second section of the DVD was Outakes and Extras. There were a few funny moments in this section, that not only will make you laugh but will also show you that MLB players are just like you and I -- regular people. Besides the humor, there was a very nice discussion with Ozzie Smith at the end of the section that was in depth and truly showed what kind of a baseball fan Ozzie Smith is. It's rewarding to listen to players such as him that respected the game's history and enjoyed being a part of it moreso than the players who do it for the money and the fame. Section Three of the DVD was a tour of Ozzie Smith's baseball collection. He had an array of momentos from his playing days, and I was in awe of the items he had in his house which further proved how he is more of a baseball fan than anything.

Overall "Oh Say Can You Sing" impressed me in a big way. From the singing of the players to the bonus material on the DVD -- I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this because you will not be dissapointed. It's a great gift for any baseball fan you know.
