The Florida Marlins reportedly have strong interest in Rockies closer Brian Fuentes, offering two prospects in return. But Fuentes is affordable, effective and able to withstand the pressures of the ninth inning, and the Rockies want to keep him.

This doesnt sound good because the team might be desperate enough to deal prospects that they shouldn't.

Give him up Colorado!

I hope we don't break the prospect though. Hopefully after losing out on Urbina, Graves, etc, the FO doesn't go crazy, getting overly-desperate to land someone.

It's a shame because if Mota was on his game then pen wouldn't look nearly so bad. Hopefully Messenger will help too.

I'm really not so scared anymore. I think we can deal for a more middle of the road reliver rather than such a young cheap stud. Messenger had a great outing, Bump is a solid middle reliever and mop up artist, De Los Santos is a good lefty, Mota will be back, Jones is ridiculous, and Alfonseca will be back...someday. How about Resop gets a tour up here while Riedling serves a time out in Albuquerque?

Not worth overpaying.

Can Fuentes hit? We need somebody who can get on base and knock in runs. An improved bullpen is of little help to this team.

Scott Olsen and Josh Wilson for Fuentes and Jennings, although I rather have Chacon

haha, we wish.....they have no need for wilson b/c of barmes.....and olsen isn't enough return on their best bullpen arm( who is also young) and a usually reliable starter in jennings....a trade like that would be a steal for us

Bazardo + Wilson doesn't seem to be enough to get Fuentes. I highly doubt upping bazardo to Olsen is enough to get not only Fuentes but also Jennings. But I a disagree with Snapback that they don't need a SS. I think they want a nice solid young'un to throw in there and groom into a star while barmes is healing. Then he is just one more item to throw off in a trade for them.

thats not my idea.... just something I heard recently

BULLPEN WORK

The Marlins continue to focus their attention on upgrading their bullpen, but they're meeting with stiff resistance when bargaining because of a scarcity of quality relievers who are available.

A National League source confirmed that the Marlins offered minor-league pitcher Yorman Bazardo and shortstop Josh Wilson for Rockies' Brian Fuentes but that the Marlins balked when Colorado demanded that reliever Guillermo Mota be included in the deal.

With the July 31 trading deadline beginning to draw closer, the Marlins are likely to discuss strategy this weekend in St. Petersburg when general manager Admin Beinfest and team president David Samson are expected to attend the series between the Marlins and Devil Rays.

Yeah. Nuts. But can you blame them? He's young, lefthanded and a closer. There's a few dopey GMs out there.

HAHA Mota, Wilson, and Bazardo for Fuentes?

Nice joke. Mota may be better than Fuentes right now. He just needs a change of scenery.
