Posted August 3, 200321 yr Juan does not seem to be hitting the ball particulary well. It seems like he is just not making good contact right now, and has all but become invisible. He had 4 LOB tonight, but only struck out once. I didnt see the game tonight, so can any of you tell me if he hit the ball with authority at all? We really need him to pick it up, but I think he will when someone else starts to struggle...that is how good teams work anyway. I really like his talent, and I am still puzzled why he doesnt have more home runs. He seems to have very good power; what is encouraging is that he has tied his doubles output from last year already (22). He is just 5 for 21 over his last 7 days. His OPS and OBP have never been that good...Right now, he is a hole in our lineup...
August 3, 200321 yr He's just in a slump right now. Before his current slump he was our 2nd best run producer so it's not like he hasn't produced. He'll be back to his old self, hopefully soon.
August 3, 200321 yr in his first ab, he was killing some balls but they were going foul... he also lined out to SS or 3B, dont remember he is hittin git hard, just at the wrong places.,... he will snap out of it

A-Gon was our second best run producer at one time, too... But Juan stung every ball he hit today, foul or fair...

August 3, 200321 yr man, he has to get out on his own no dobut..... but facts are facts cant have him hit 5th in the line-up

August 3, 200321 yr man, he has to get out on his own no dobut..... but facts are facts cant have him hit 5th in the line-up I think you have to keep him batting fifth. He is batting . 300+ with RISP I believe, compared to Lee (the only alternitive) who is batting under . 250.
August 3, 200321 yr He is slumping Mightly Now. He just needs to get back his Mechanics and he will be fine. Remeber he was injured....

I suggested before the trading deadline that the Fish should get JD Drew and stick him in right field while starting Enc against lefties, which everyone here thought was a silly idea. Doesn't seem so silly anymore. I've been saying throughout the season that Enc has been one of the least productive right fielders in baseball. Yet everyone here continues to commend his amazing "clutch" prowess. This despite the fact that he hits worse with RISP than he does with nobody on, and despite the fact that he only has 6 more RBIs than Mr. Anti-Clutch, Derrek Lee. I think you have to keep him batting fifth. He is batting . 300+ with RISP I believe, compared to Lee (the only alternitive) who is batting under . 250. Encarnacion is actually hitting .270 with RISP, while Lee is hitting .255 (with more power). Not the huge difference that everyone on this board would have you believe. Also, Lee's .255 batting average comes from 110 at-bats (while Enc's .270 BA comes from 111 at-bats). What's the difference between a .255 BA over 110 at-bats and a .270 BA over 110 at-bats? About 2 hits.

August 3, 200321 yr Encarnacion is going through the same thing Lowell did earlier, hitting the ball hard just being unlucky enough to be hitting it at people for the most part. I think he'll pick up the slack in St. Louis.
August 3, 200321 yr I've been saying throughout the season that Enc has been one of the least productive right fielders in baseball. I checked the stats and I only found 10 RF's who are more productive than Encarnacion, as far as RBI's per AB. So I would not say he's one of the least productive RF's, I'd say he's above average as far as production.

I agree, production wise he's above average. But Carcy really needs to step it up today against the knuckleballer...
August 3, 200321 yr Author I like En too, but I havent been able to see him the last few days. I just remember him not doing much on our 6game winning streak there - he just wasnt hitting the ball with any kind of authority. I know this sounds crazy, but I think if we can get him into some hit and run situations, forcing him to hit the next pitch and be aggressive, that may help him out of his slump. I have heard of managers doing that to other players to get them out of a slump by forcing those hitters to be more aggressive and think less. It may work for En, but we have to do what is best for the team...

And with the exception of Mike Lowell, the players that hit in front of him have enough speed to be able to get to second safely just in case encarnacion cant hit the pitch. Not a bad idea.
