World Toe Wrestling Championship

Once again the Bentley Brook Inn in Derbyshire will play host to the world?s most toe-curling contact sport. On 23rd July 2005, the Ben & Jerry?s World Toe Wrestling Championship is back for its 12th year of foot foolery, bad wrestling outfits and toeriffically treacherous puns.

For those brave enough to lock feet with a toe-tal stranger, the day starts with a compulsory Toe Inspection followed by a gruelling knock out competition to weed out the big toes from the little toes. Each match takes place on a specially constructed ?toe-dium? and the winner is decided from the best of three ?toe-downs?.

The cream of the Toe Wrestling fraternity, including Alan ?Nasty? Nash and Paul ?The Toeminator? Beech will be back again and battling it out for the right to have the toughest toes in town. In the women?s competition, Nat ?toe? lee Cartwright from Cheshire will be hoping to retain her title.

The sport of Toe Wrestling began way back in 1976 when regulars at the Ye Olde Royal oak Inn in Wetton set about searching for a game that the British could win. And so Toe Wrestling was born. In the nineties the new landlord of the pub, George Burgess, rediscovered the rules and resurrected the sport.

If you think you?ve got what it takes to challenge some of Toe Wrestling?s best then you can turn up early on the day to register. Entry to the competition costs ?2.50 and all proceeds go to Derbyshire charity, When You Wish Upon A Star.
