Posted July 18, 200519 yr Then it's OFFICIALLY time to sell. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If we can't win AT LEAST 4 out of 6 against the Diamondbacks and Giants combined (NOT 3-3, 4-2) then we truly suck and should start selling. For all we know, maybe it's already time to start selling. I mean, 7 games back in the division and 5.5 back in the wildcard looking up at Atlanta is a lot to come back from. It's truly sad that this group of talent can't pull it together. We lose 8 of 11 after winning 8 of 11. Pathetic. I'm still holding out some hope, but we have to be realistic. Do you honestly think that this group of players and coaches (even after trades and releases happen) can suddenly go on a surge and make the playoffs? Not likely. It's a shame, too.
July 18, 200519 yr Author I know that. But if we can't take at least 4 (MAYBE 3) of the next 6 games over in Arizona and San Francisco, then it's time to start building for 2006. We have too much talent to be at .500 at the 90-game mark. We should already have almost 60 wins by now but are still at 45 and it seems like we've been at around 45 for several weeks now. :banghead

July 18, 200519 yr the only way we turn to sellers is if we go 0-6 the FO wont give up 861399 That is not true. Must have a winning trip right here.
July 18, 200519 yr Yep, 100% right. 4-2 is a MUST. I have already written this team off by losing 5 of 7 @ home against sub .500 teams (look at my other posts). So it's not like this week is going to make or break my faith because my faith has already been broken. The FO is selling. Look at the AJ deal. If we were 10 games over .500 or tied for 2nd place in the division or fighting for first then there would be no AJ trade rumors. Simple as that. The FO is looking for the future because keeping AJ would be best for the present and they are not doing that. Basicly this team would require to be touched by the hand of God in order to make it to the playoffs let alone win the divison. And I think we all know God is a Boston Red Sox fan (as of recently).

And I think we all know God is a Boston Red Sox fan (as of recently). 861508 I don't see how we need a miracle to make the playoffs. We are 4 behind the WC leader in the loss column (Braves) We are 6 behind the NL East leader in the loss column (Nationals) We have 72 games left to play and those include6 games left with the Braves 10 games left with the Nationals I know I'm seen as a eternal optimist but still even a pessimist has to see that the realistic numbers here show we have absolutely no reason to be sellers at this point or think we need a miracle. With those many total games left and especially those many vs the teams ahead of us -- we have a very real shot still. Giving up this early is not the best idea in my opinion.
July 18, 200519 yr 6 games against the braves, what is our record against a 100% healthy braves team? What is our record so far? if we were at least 5 games above .500 i would say that this team shouldnt be a seller. but when you have a pitcher who is entering FA and you can get a lot for him go for it. If the front office thought this season had a chance to go into october they wouldn't get rid of burnett. its that simple. yeah, i know that 85% of the fans on this forum are optimists (thats what is great about sports). but 16 games against division leaders isnt going to do that much. at this point RIGHT NOW we would have to win all 10 games against the Nats. Look, this team has been more than underachieving for the past 90(?) games. Who is to say that for the last 70 they are all of the sudden going to play .600 baseball (which they will need to to get into the playoffs). Look at their record in the past 10 games. Will it take until the end of the month for the tone of this forum to change from "we can turn it around" to "can't wait until next season"?
July 18, 200519 yr We always do bad over there. Just a disclaimer. 861378 Also known as an excuse. That would qualify as a "but".
