Posted July 18, 200519 yr Anyone here the rumor that they league will be going to tapered jersies in the near future (2006?). Just wondering if you hockey guys know anything and what are your opinions?
July 18, 200519 yr yeah ive heard that a few times so that there will be less holding. im guessing that means the jerseys are gonna be tighter than they are now.
July 19, 200519 yr Tapered Jerseys? 862008 They're going to be going to jerseys that are form fitting to reduce clutching and grabbing in the neutral zone and whatnot. Reebok and Nike are currently designing prototypes, but nothing is final yet. More than likely the jerseys will similar to the tight football jerseys. Nothing is definite yet and i'm sure the hockey purists are going to battle this one, i'm against it. Hockey jerseys are by far the coolest uniforms in pro sports.
July 19, 200519 yr Thank you Accord for explaining that. I say no, the hockey sweater is the coolest jersey of all sports. No to NFL style.

No to NFL style. 862713 There are rumors that this is going to be for goalies only and not position players, but nobody really knows for sure and the NHL brass has been very tight lipped. Just a few tidbits: Smaller goalies: The NHL players and owners have already agreed to shrink the size of goaltender equipment whenever the league gets back on ice. The width of goalie pads will be reduced from 12 to 11 inches. Blockers, gloves and shoulder pads will be held to stricter standards. Goalies will also be required to wear form-fitting uniforms that compact their upper-body gear more. Streamlining of goaltending equipment: Manufacturers are already in the process of delivering the equipment -- narrower leg pads, smaller blockers. Combined with more form-fitting pants and jerseys, goalies will look like athletes rather than human walls. Instead, goalie equipment will be reduced substantially in size. Pads will only be 11 inches wide. The blocker pad will more resemble the size of a waffle. The catching glove will no longer look like a fishing net. There will also be restrictions on the size of shoulder pads, hockey pants and the team sweaters will be more form-fitting. Will the NHL be recognizable? Hardly. Remember, this was the league that decided to burn down the village to save it. From shrunken goalie equipment and offense-friendly rules changes to form-fitting uniforms, a new NHL logo and unprecedented turnover, the makeover already is in progress. Under consideration are much larger goal dimensions, tighter restrictions on goalie equipment, allowance of two-line passes, and uniforms that are sleeker and more form-fitting. The clear aim of the changes is to open up a stagnant offensive game and make the sport more attractive for television viewers.
July 20, 200519 yr Aren't the Goalie jerseys pretty tight now as it is due to all the padding they wear?
