Late last year the Cardinals and Marlins played three of the hardest fought games all summer.

This year, while the baseball may not be quite as entertaining, but the tensions were there.

The two teams really seem to respect eachother and leave everything out there on the field, even when the ball is not in play (right, LaRussa?). I don't think it's a rivalry, just a case of two good teams meeting eachother at crucial points, but it's fun to follow.

What a high intensity game it was tonight, Larussa had the umpire going crazy :lol

Well, on paper, these are the two best teams in the league. Nice to see they wake up for the head to head matchups, especially with the pitching going over these games.

Won't be a rivalry though, Cards fans are too passive, and Marlins fans...well, yeah.

Kind of wish Edmonds would have charged the mound... Villone, a former football player by the way, would have killed Edmonds!!!! I think Edmonds knew it as well, talked a lot, but didn't even make a move torward the mound. I think Villone tried to apologize to Jim, but Jim gave the big F... You to him... Wish we won tonight..

I actually thought Edmonds kind of blew it off. They have seen eachother 20+ times, and Edmonds just smiled...he knew Villone wasn't throwing at him. I dont think it's as big a deal as your making it out to be.

Would have certainly been interesting. Villone would have pulled a Kyle Farnsworth.

If you watch the video, Villone, not meaning to hit Edmonds, starts to walk torward Edmonds to apologize, but it is VERY clear Jim drops the F bomb. I don't think Edmonds blew it off at all as he kept yelling torward Villone....It was so obivous Edmonds was gonna swing on the next pitch thrown at him and sure enough he did.....

I thought things were cool at first when Edmonds smiled, but it turned out to be a "Nice one, a**hole" kind of smile. Edmonds wasn't pleased, to say the least.

No rivalry unless we meet in the playoffs.

Our rivals are the Braves, D'Rays, and Cubs.

Maybe the Phils too- when they had Bowa.

It's a shame this game was decided by Lowell's error.

its kind of ironic that the day someone posts something about mike lowell having the all time best feilding percentage that he copmmits the error that ultimatley cost us the game... :banghead

and i think a rivalry with the best team in the national league is a good thing in terms of exposure.. however im not sure how much st. louis considers us their rival..

and one more thing Go Beckett!!!

What cost us the game was the lack of offense caused by a dominating pitching performance.

:thumbup absolutely correct, Marlins2003

So far it's been a good series

I don't feel so bad that we lost to Carpenter, though. The guy is what? 9-0 now?
