Paul Lo Duca said yesterday his sore hamstring didn't feel as bad as he expected after waking up Sunday.

However, he's unlikely to return to the lineup until at least the middle of the week, but that's better than an extended absence or trip to the DL. Aug. 8 - 10:37 am et

Paul Lo Duca - C - Marlins

Paul Lo Duca's (hamstring) injury is expected to keep him out of the lineup until Wednesday.

That's old news, but yesterday it led to a great Jack McKeon quote. ''He's going to work out a little bit [today] and see what he can do,'' McKeon said. ``[but] I don't think we'll see him the first two games with Arizona. Unless our trainer goes to that Billy Graham school where he can lay the hands on him and heal him.'' Nice. Aug. 9 - 8:56 am et

That is good news. Paulie should be back by the start of the Giants series possibly one game of the D-Backs. Lord knows we need him now.

Neither has pedro made his yearly stint of 2-3 games.

Or Wright or Reyes both of whom are due.

Plus should Floyd and Pizza boy be missing their normal half of the season?

If we can keep at playing just above 500 ball till then we should be alright. At least we have the NL West at home for the next two weeks.

No, we won't be alright. Because at least half of the other teams in the hunt will do at least that well. Thirteen games against three sub-.500 teams who are a combined 18-32 against the East and the "first place" Padres are the biggest gift we could ask for. Put the Colorado losses behind us (they are above .500 at home) and play good ball, and hopefully we'll be able to put the Brewers and Cubs out of their misery when we hit the road again.
