Posted November 22, 200519 yr For comparison's sake, in his fifth season in the major leagues, Martinez was 13-10 with a 3.70 ERA. In 2005, Beckett went a similar 15-8, with a 3.38 ERA. A year later, in 1997, Martinez opened the world up to his dominance, when he was 17-8 with a 1.90 ERA. By December, he was in Boston. Could Beckett be heading down the same road? by the way back then gave up its top prospect and another good prospect. There names Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr.
November 22, 200519 yr If that happens, let's pray that Hanley doesn't turn into DeLino F'ing DeShields.
November 22, 200519 yr I hope it does happen to Beckett. I like him, we weren't going to be able to re-sign him anyway (especially if he turns into Pedro 2) and his performance has nothing to do with us anymore.
November 22, 200519 yr I wish all the best for Beckett and hope he ends up like Pedro. However, I hope more that the two guys the Marlins got turn out better. Beckett still hasn't stayed healthy for an entire year.
November 22, 200519 yr a better parallell would be Kerry wood...both cocky flamethrowers out of Texas with better stuff than anyone, but can never manage to stay healthy...
November 22, 200519 yr If that happens, let's pray that Hanley doesn't turn into DeLino F'ing DeShields. The Marlins would be lucky if he turned into Delino DeSh!ts.
November 22, 200519 yr Good, I hope Beckett does turn into Pedro II. The kid's got fire and passion. Good luck to him.
November 22, 200519 yr Beckett will blossom in Boston......future 20 game winner and possible Cy Youngs.....
November 22, 200519 yr I'd love to see Beckett completely dominate the Yankees for the foreseeable future.
