The Red Sox have until 6 p.m. today to finalize their trade with the Marlins. They may yet have concerns about Josh Beckett's shoulder.

 

A source told the Boston Herald the team still had enough unanswered questions that the proposed deal could not be consummated yesterday. If the Red Sox aren't entirely convinced Beckett's shoulder is sound, they could ask the Marlins for cash to cover some of Mike Lowell?s salary or try to send a different package of prospects back to the Marlins.

Now that there are serious doubts about Ramirez' ability to live up to his potential, what the Marlins got in return, and the fact that the payroll is already bottomed out thanks to Delgado, perhaps this may end up to be a silver lining.

 

Plus, if Beckett fails the Red Sox' physical, I doubt he's moved simply because other teams will probably shy away or offer us less for him. This, however, does mean that LoDuca and Pierre will be as good as gone, since payroll will need to be shed elsewhere.

I think this is just a byproduct of not having a GM, and too many people discussing this at once. Two heads are better than one but one head is better than ten.

The difference in getting Beckett and allowing the Yanks to get Beckett is more than Boston can risk.

But sources said there is growing concern among the Red Sox about Beckett's shoulder, and it could lead to an amended deal in which the Marlins might have to either absorb some of the money left owed to Lowell or receive lesser prospects as part of the trade.

 

This trade is painful enough as it is. The possibility of receiving lesser prospects or absorbing more money in this haste to dump salary would be unbelievable.

It got delayed through the Thanksgiving holiday.

Good. It makes me sick to trade Beckett. Trade Pierre and Lo Duca and keep Beckett.

Trading Beckett is ridiculous, but blame Mike Lowell and his steroids!!!
