Angels sign Carrasco

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels Friday agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent right-handed pitcher Hector Carrasco. The contract includes a club option for the 2008 season. This announcement was made by club Vice President/General Manager Bill Stoneman. Per club policy, no financial terms of the contract will be released.

 

Carrasco, 36, posted a 5-4 record, two saves and 2.04 ERA (88.1 IP - 20 ER) in 64 games (five starts) with Washington in 2005. He allowed 59 hits (6 HR), walked 38 and struck out 75 batters. Carrasco limited opponents to a .193 average. He finished 4-3 with a 2.04 ERA (62.2 IP ? 14 ER) as a reliever and 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA (27.2 IP ? 6 ER) in his last five appearances of the season as a starter. Carrasco began the 2005 season at triple-A New Orleans, registering a 1-0 record, four saves and a 0.00 ERA (8 IP) in six games.

 

Originally signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent, March 20, 1988, Carrasco owns a 35-46 record, 18 saves and a 3.94 ERA (693.2 IP ? 304 ER) in 563 career appearances (six starts). He has appeared in the major leagues with Cincinnati (1994-97), Kansas City (1997), Minnesota (1998-99, 2000-01), Boston (2000), Baltimore (2003) and Washington (2005). In 2004, Carrasco pitched for the Kintetsu Buffaloes of the Japanese Pacific League, posting an 8-8 record with five saves and a 5.57 ERA (76 IP ? 47 ER) in 53 relief appearances.

 

Carrasco resides in San Pedro de Macoris, DR with his wife Tonya and children Gelen and Hector, Jr.
