TSwift25
So, tonight I go with my friend to the David Wright foundation dinner at the NYSE, and guess who's there? Dontrelle Willis. I start talking with him, tell him I'm probably the only Marlins fan there, and we start talking for about 20-30 minutes, he's telling me all about what he's done in the off-season (he did the FAST program again), that he's probably going to head to Jupiter on January 1 to start working from the 'pen and all that stuff. I ask him if he's spoken to Miguel at all and his response was "yeah, you know, we're both warriors ready to go...we're going to f'ing surprise some people." (I must say, I was shocked to hear him drop an f-bomb...he's just one of those guys I couldn't picture). He tells me he's been talking to Olsen a lot since they share the same agent and he's really excited to get to spring-training. Then David Wright comes over and starts trash talking with me when he finds out I'm a Marlins fan...hysterical stuff. Scott Rolen, Cliff Floyd, Omar Minaya, Willie Randolph, BJ and Justin Upton, Sara Hughes and Jason Marquis were also there. Here's me and Cliff:
Accord
Woah. So how did you get to go to this thing, were you invited or something?
TSwift25
Woah. So how did you get to go to this thing, were you invited or something? It was a charity event, I bought tickets as a thank-you to my friend because he is a huge David Wright fan...it was just a bonus that D-Train and Cliff were there... Passion
Wow, awesome. Its always great to hear good fan to athelete interactions. 25-30 minutes is amazing. You marlin fans should be adarn proud to have a player like that to represent your team like the D-Train does.
Ns2003
Wow very nice to see DTrain feel so optimistic! f*** yeah DTRAIN WOOT!
FutureGM
I've heard that David Wright is one of the better fan-friendly players in baseball. I already know from personal experience what a great guy D-Train is. Did you meet Willie Randolph? I've heard he's one of the toughest people to get an autograph from in person, and generally a real jerk.
TSwift25
Did you meet Willie Randolph? I've heard he's one of the toughest people to get an autograph from in person, and generally a real jerk. Huge jerk. My friend asked him for an autograph and he completely brushed him off, just kept walking didn't even talk to him. Everyone else signed anything stuck in front of them, talked, had fun. Willie came late and left early. Cliff, David and Dontrelle were so nice it was a little ridiculous. Only thing was Wright was cashing too many checks with his guaranteeing mouth. I told him that I was going to hold him to the guarantee he made to me. He said (knowing I'm a Marlins fan, with Dontrelle standing next to me) "It's a little hard to win with only one pitcher and one hitter...even if they are as good as my man here." So I responded "It's ok, 2006'll be fine, besides, we've won 2 titles in the last 8 years, any Met fan here would take that." Then he said "Just you wait." FutureGM
LOL, good old Willie. A class act all the way. Did you also meet B.J. Upton? I have heard in the past that he's not usually very fan-friendly either.

I have heard in the past that he's not usually very fan-friendly either. BJ was super fan friendly, his brother wasn't very articulate but I was taken aback by how well spoken BJ was given that he was drafted out of high-school. Signed everything, talked to me and my friend, was pretty off the cuff talking about the D-Rays organization and was just generally a good guy. Lefty
That's awesome, bro! Every story I've ever heard about D Train and fan interaction has been positive. He is the mang. You are a lucky guy! And I've met Cliff several times--he's extremely nice and friendly.
miami15
I've seen you at like 20 Marlins games in section 149, right?
TSwift25
Yup, 149. Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention, someone asked Dontrelle if he's going to want out soon given that the whole thing was blown up around him. His response "f*** no...I love Florida, I'm not going anywhere." That made me smile.
