FSU football player accused of raping woman at Hollywood hotel

By Miami Herald [email protected]

Hollywood police are investigating an allegation that Florida State University defensive end A.J. Nicholson sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa.

''We have spoken with Mr. Nicholson and he is cooperating fully with our investigation,'' said Hollywood police Detective Carlos Negron. ``We're speaking with witnesses and it is an active investigation.''

The woman called police at 3 a.m. saying she had been sexually assaulted at the hotel, at 3555 S. Ocean Drive in Hollywood, Negron said.

The 22nd-ranked Florida State Seminoles (8-4) are staying at the Diplomat while preparing for Tuesday's Orange Bowl game against Penn State.

At practice Thursday morning, FSU Head Coach Bobby Bowden said he had sent one of his players home for violating team policy. Bowden identified the player as starting linebacker Nicholson, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior who leads the team in tackles this year.

Bowden would not say what policy Nicholson violated.
