DENVER -- Infielder Jose Hernandez and reliever Steve Reed have reached agreements in principle with the Colorado Rockies on one-year contracts.

Hernandez

The deal with Hernandez is contingent on him passing a physical and management approval, Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said.

Hernandez, who also attracted interest from San Francisco and the New York Mets, was an All-Star shortstop last season with Milwaukee. He hit .288 with 24 home runs and 73 RBI.

Hernandez could play shortstop or third base for the Rockies.

Reed was 2-5 with one save and a 2.01 ERA in 64 games for the Mets and San Diego. The Padres traded him to New York on July 31.

Reed, a right-hander, pitched for the Rockies from 1993-97. He was part of Colorado's original roster as an expansion team.

Hernandez and Reed both filed for free agency after the World Series.

Two very solid pick-ups for the Rockies.

I see the Rockies breaking 500 this year but will be lost in the tough NL West.

I don't know about that...

Wilson still stikes out a lot.

And CJ can't hit a ball even if it were infront of him.

Kapler.. maybe...

Wilson is going to do a 180 turn.

He will be great but don't blame the Fish for not seeing his potential. It will be Coors that does this.

The Fish were smart in dealing him even though Wilson will produce.

VERY good pick up now they will have more power with preston, hernandez, helton, walker and maybe CJ.I think they will finally compete now in there division.I think they just go to add Better pitching and they will do very good.

They also strengnthen there bullpen with Reed i believe was with the Twins??If thats him then that was very good he is a veteran with lots of experience.....

Reed had a good ERA 2.01 he has to keep the ball down on coors and he will be fine.

Their lineup is build around their ballpark like the fish they both have done good moves and both should compete. Two smart teams but the Rockies still need more ground ball pitchers.

Yea if he keeps the ball low he should do very good because he is a ground ball pitcher and thats what you need to have to suceed in Coors. I think thats a major reason they got reed, because he has a sinker.
