Iron Man

I used to like the IRON MAN title and its characters, and the artwork on the armors fascinated me to the point I can honestly say that Romita Jr., Layton and Bright were influences in my development as an illustrator.

I really hope Favreau does a good job with the film version... for old times' sake.

*still hopes they use Iron Man as the theme song*

Sabbath's version over the end credits? That'd be cool.

Terence Howard was asked to play Iron Man according to Cinematical.

I've no idea who that is.

I could IMDB him, but I'm REAL lazy.

Starred in "Hustle and Flow", and played the black station exec in Crash, who's wife gets felt up by Matt Dillon.

Stupid casting, if thats true. They could cast him as War Machine though, who actually was black.

Peter Gallager (sp?) with a porn mustache would be a good Iron Man though.

Aw, dude, he's too old, but I know what you're talking about. It's too bad Tom Selleck is old, too.

Even though there's no way in hell, Johnny Depp would make a good Tony Stark, so would Jeremy Pivens (sp?), and, if Favreau could pull the strings with his ol' buddy Made and Swingers buddy, Vince Vaughn. I mean, Tony Stark is essentially a drunk, eccentric billionaire. Think of Bruce Wayne with an Iron Suit and constantly getting laid (something oddly missing from Batman's life).

Except he doesn't take himself seriously at all. He's a genius and a total a**hole. But, Favreau doesn't want established so we'll see...

Also, if anyone's on MySpace Favreau has a page and answers and hints at fan questions (not sure if this was brought up or not, I might be hallucinating).

I never thought of Vince Vaughn. Dont get me wrong, I'd use Terrance Long, but in sequels and as War Machine. He has no business being Tony Stark.

Actually, if they were using the Vietnam backstory, as opposed to a more recent war(Desert Storm or even Somalia...Afghanistan/Iraq would be too recent IMO), then someone like Gallager would be good.

I only did because he's friends with Favreau and strikes me as being able to play the laughing on the outside, tortured on the inside, eccentric drunk millionaire inventor (okay, maybe not the inventor part).

A really weird way to go would be to have Jason Schwartzman do it. I would imagine that as being awesome, but I dunno. It's all guessing and speculation and the "ooh-ah, who's going to be Iron Man!?" guessing game that always comes with these kinds of movies.

He was offered the part of James Rhodes, not Tony Stark.

Well, thats good then. War Machine he is.

Howard on Iron Man:

While out promoting the Outkast-starring musical drama IDLEWILD, actor extraordinaire Terrence Howard spoke a little bit about the rumor that he's up for the role of James Rhodes aka War Machine in the upcoming feature adaptation of IRON MAN. Surprisingly enough, Howard is slightly hesitant to dip his toe into big budget mainstream comic book franchise waters but not necessarily because he's not interested in the material but because his inexperience with green/blue screen work may prevent him from providing a good performance and, as grand daddy pimp from HUSTLE & FLOW would say, he ain't having that sh*t. In Howard's own words, "It's something I'm trying to fully consider. Action is a whole 'nother animal. The CGI and special effects, that's a whole 'nother thing. Playing to green screen or blue screen, I've never done that. I want to accomplish it and do it well. I don't want to do anything and not do it well."

Robert Downey Jr.: I am 'Iron Man'

POSTED: 10:11 a.m. EDT, September 29, 2006

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Robert Downey, Jr. is suiting up to star in "Iron Man," a superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character.

Jon Favreau is directing the Paramount Pictures release. Filming is slated to begin in February in Los Angeles.

Downey will portray Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Using his intelligence and ingenuity, Stark instead builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. Upon his return to the U.S., he uncovers a plot with global implications and must don his armor and protect the world.

The comic debuted in the 1960s, and Iron Man's origin involved Stark being a prisoner of the Viet Cong. The movie version will be set in today's geopolitical climate.

Budgeted at more than $100 million, it marks the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, which previously licensed its characters, such as "Spider-Man" and "X-Men," to other studios.

Marvel president of production Kevin Feige said the filmmakers looked for the best actor to embody the character.

"The Marvel characters are not just about how high they jump or how fast they fly, they're about their character flaws," Feige said. "They're about their inner demons. They're about the struggles that they go through between being a man and being a hero."

Downey, who has battled his fair share of inner demons, worked hard to get the role, getting in shape and even growing a goatee like the one Stark sports in the comic books.

"In every casting announcement we've done, people in their mind's eye have their own view of it and let us know about it. We're used to it," Feige said. "The point is, we looked at everybody, and we found the best person for the role. It's as confident a casting move as we've ever done. The proof will be in the pudding, but he is Tony Stark."

Downey returns to theaters on November 10 in the Diane Arbus biopic "Fur" opposite Nicole Kidman.

VERY interesting choice. Who better to play a character with a history of chronic substance abuse? And he kinda looks like Stark too. I like it.

Terrence Howard is joining the cast of Marvel's "Iron Man," in which he will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the best friend of Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist who becomes the superhero known as Iron Man. As Rhodes, Howard will appear as a military pilot who assists Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Jon Favreau is directing the film. "The richness of the role and complexity of the character seemed to mesh perfectly with the type of passion, energy and emotion that Howard brings to all of his projects," Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige said.
