LOUIS -- Aaron Harang didn't allow a run in seven-plus innings and drove in the only run of the game as the Reds nipped the Cardinals, 1-0, on Friday night at Busch Stadium. Harang, who was 2-for-74 at the plate last season, broke up a scoreless game by punching an RBI single to center against reigning Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter in the fifth inning. Austin Kearns had singled and advanced on center fielder Jim Edmonds' error. Harang protected the lead before leaving after issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth. The Cardinals eventually loaded the bases, but reliever Todd Coffey fanned Edmonds on a 3-2 pitch to end the threat. The Reds improved to 7-3, while the Cardinals fell to 5-5. David Weathers pitched the ninth inning for his third save. wOOt!
April 15, 200619 yr Author Encarnacion's AB in the 8th was pathetic. Edmonds' was worse. He swung at 2 balls including the 3-2 pitch.
April 15, 200619 yr I didn't see Edmonds at bat, as I was leaving the bar Pujols was getting ready to come up. I just say Encarnacion swing at three garbage pitches, and not even put up much of an effort doing it.
