Lefty Sean West experienced shoulder discomfort while throwing in the bullpen between starts and was placed on the disabled list. The Hoppers turned to Barone, who had eight starts in his first two minor-league seasons, to take West's turn in the rotation.

GOING WEST: Left-hander Sean West, who went on the disabled list because of shoulder soreness after his first start, is scheduled to return to the mound Tuesday at Lexington.

West, a first-round supplemental pick in the '05 draft, pitched six shutout innings in his Grasshoppers debut April 9 against Hagerstown
