Florida (11-28) at Tampa Bay (16-24), 7:15 p.m. ET

Intense rivalries typically are developed over time. The test of time has yet to be on the side of the Citrus Series. Matching the Marlins and Devil Rays lacks the luster of, say, the Subway Series in New York, where the Yankees take on the Mets, and the buzz of the event divides the market. Marlins manager Joe Girardi, a former Yankees player and coach, would love to someday see Florida's two Major League teams develop a stronger rivalry.

"It needs time," Girardi said. "It would be great [if the series meant more]. It adds revenue to each one of the cities, and people would really get into baseball."

Interleague by the numbers:

All-time Marlins vs. Devil Rays: 29-17

All-time Marlins Interleague records: 87-63

Most Interleague hits: Luis Castillo (140)

Most Interleague homers: Mike Lowell (23)

Most Interleague RBIs: Mike Lowell (85)

Most Interleague wins: A.J. Burnett (8)

Most Interleague games pitched: Braden Looper (39)

The Marlins and Rays rekindle their annual Citrus Series on Friday night with the first of three games at Tropicana Field.
