Report: Status of Cards' Mulder uncertain

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals could be without left-hander Mark Mulder for the forseeable future.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that Mulder will undergo an MRI and further testing on his ailing left shoulder after lasting just 1 2/3 innings in Tuesday's start.

Trying to hold on for their third straight National League Central Division title, the Cardinals (69-61) have battled injuries all season. They are 3? games in front of Cincinnati but will not approach their triple-digit victory totals of the last two years.

Since going on the disabled list two-plus months ago, he has made three rehabilitation outings and two major-league starts without much success.

"There's still something going on," Mulder said. "I'm obviously not right out there. It's not pain, it's just not right."

Edmonds unsure when he will be ready to return

ST. LOUIS -- Jim Edmonds was out of the St. Louis Cardinals' lineup again Tuesday, giving him one start in two weeks due to post-concussion syndrome, and he doesn't know when he'll be ready to play again.

Edmonds underwent a battery of medical tests in mid-August after leaving a game with blurred vision and dizziness. He said another trip to the doctor on Monday, a day off for the team, provided no answers.

"They've basically told me to do what I can do until we figure out what's going on," Edmonds said. "All I know is some days it's good and some days it's terrible."

The more activity he has, the worse the symptoms usually become for Edmonds. He said team doctors have told him he just has to wait for the symptoms to subside.

"The doctor said there's no timetable," Edmonds said. "It could be a week, it could be 10 days, it could be two months."

Wells trade REJECTED

Forget about it...

It's over....

Red Sox about 2 hours ago rejected the Cardinals' offer of a prospect or two from the lower levels of the minors.

The Red Sox told the Cardinals they could have Wells in exchange for one of these three players:

Adam Wainwright

Chris Duncan

Colby Rasmus

Oh, sure...

Jocketty was right to turn that down. Wells could blow up at anytime. He's one pitch away from a season-ending injury.

Then you have this..

Mulder considering season-ending surgery

Posted: 16 minutes ago

Cardinals left-hander Mark Mulder is considering undergoing season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, FOXSports.com has learned.

Mulder, 29, is expected to seek a second opinion before making his final decision. An MRI Wednesday revealed no tear, but Mulder has fraying around the labrum that apparently is preventing him from using the proper arm angle when throwing.

The surgery, characterized as a "tuneup" by a source close to the situation, likely would sideline Mulder for two to three months. Mulder, a free agent at the end of the season, would be healthy in time to resume his normal January workout program.

If healthy, Mulder might have landed a free-agent contract similar to the five-year, $73 million deal that the Astros awarded right-hander Roy Oswalt Tuesday night. Instead, Mulder now stands to receive a short-term, incentive-laden deal.
