Could the Marlins look at the Rule 5 Draft again next year for a center fielder, hopefully they can get a surprise pick like they did with Dan Uggla.

The Marlins certainly captured lightning in a bottle a year ago by plucking Uggla out of the Rule 5 Draft. While the scouting department is combing through potential Rule 5 candidates, to expect them to once again use the Rule 5 Draft to land a starting center fielder may be wishful thinking. Keep in mind, Rule 5 picks have to make the active roster on Opening Day and remain there throughout the entire season. It's just so rare to find available position players capable of doing that. Still, the front office spent a great deal of time in the Arizona Fall League searching for those diamonds in the rough. If last year taught us anything, it's that the Rule 5 Draft shouldn't be taken lightly.

It's not surprising the Fish had scouts and talent evaluators in Arizona looking at players. We all know the Rule 5 rules have changed this season with an additional year added to ineligibility so there is a lesser chance of finding a quality player and an even lesser chance than that of finding a Rule 5 candidate (someone who did not wind up on their parent club's 40 man roster) at the AFL.

If you're good enough to be picked by your team to participate in the AFL one would assume you are destined tobe paced on their 40 man roster.

So my question is...were there any?

Short of going through rosters of all the players in the AFL and checking player vs 40 man rosters which is an impossible task, has anyone seen a story on this or a list or anything?

Just curious.

After a bit of research i've come across one person that should be rule V eligible, he had a poor showing in the AFL but his Milb numbers were outstanding but he has repeated lvls, but he hit well(300+) when he got demoted, and hes still young 23.

Javon Moran he spent signifcant time in all 3 OF posistions.

Thanks, I'll take a look.

I keep thinking a Sickels or Mayo will publish a list or some enterprising blogger or minor league messageboard poster will, but so far to no avail. I'm sure before the draft one will apear, they always do, although we all understand this year and going forward, the quality of player being left exposed is diminished by the new rules.

maybe, but they were saying the same thing after Santana won the CY: that everyone would protect their prospects its apparent it happened again, time will tell, but the new rules do put a bit of a strain on the draft.
