Posted December 26, 200618 yr Donald Trump Files $10 Million Lawsuit Against Palm Beach After Being Cited for Large Flag Sunday , December 24, 2006 PALM BEACH, Florida ? Donald Trump is suing this oceanside town for $10 million after being cited for flying an oversized U.S. flag over his Mar-a-Lago Club. Attorneys for the club filed a complaint Thursday, saying that flying the flag is a constitutionally protected expression of free speech ? and that the large flag is a proper match for the size of the real-estate mogul's patriotism. Town officials said Trump violated zoning codes when the lavish club hoisted a 15-by-25-foot flag atop an 80-foot pole on Oct. 3. The citation was for having a flagpole taller than 42 feet, for not obtaining a building permit and for not getting permission from the landmarks board. "A smaller flag and pole on Mar-A-Lago's property would be lost given its massive size, look silly instead of make a statement, and most importantly would fail to appropriately express the magnitude of Donald J. Trump's and the Club's members' patriotism," the lawsuit says. A phone message left at the mayor and town council's office was not returned Saturday. In the lawsuit, Trump's attorneys accuse the town of selectively enforcing its ordinances. Other locations in the town display flags that violate statutes, the lawsuit alleges. All damages awarded to the club would be donated to veterans of the war in Iraq, the lawsuit said. Trump had until Nov. 27 to apply for approvals or else he faced a Dec. 21 hearing that could have resulted in fines costing $250 per day. It was unclear Saturday whether that meeting took place. "The day you need a permit to put up the American flag, that will be a sad day for this country," Trump said in October. The Donald is awesome. Calling Rosie a pig, and now suing Palm Beach because he can't fly an American flag larger than my house... all in the same week!
December 26, 200618 yr The Donald is awesome. But he's adamantly against the war in Iraq Just thought you should know, maybe you'll rethink that notion... Personally, I think Trump is the man.
December 26, 200618 yr The Donald is awesome. But he's adamantly against the war in Iraq Just thought you should know, maybe you'll rethink that notion... Personally, I think Trump is the man. Me too. The guy can sue the Pope and I'd still think he's the man. His "I'm one of the richest people on earth, bite me" attitude is so appealing to me; I just can't explain it. Next week... Donald Trump vs PETA

Personally, I think Trump is the man. whats wrong with being against the war? its vietnam 2 or korea 3 Don't be so naive. When we left Vietnam, that was it, the war was over. If we leave Iraq they'll follow us home. There's a great deal more at stake and it's sad that more people don't realize it.
December 26, 200618 yr Town* of Palm Beach. And he should take it down. It's too big and he erected it without a permit.
December 26, 200618 yr Author Town* of Palm Beach. And he should take it down. It's too big and he erected it without a permit. Screw the town of Palm Beach. This is the United States of America and if someone wants to fly old glory, no matter how big, then damnit they should be able to fly old glory regardless of some stupid town rules.
December 27, 200618 yr So its ok to burn it, but you cant fly it if its too big??? Gimme a break... Fly it dont fry it!!!
December 27, 200618 yr did anyone see the ali g show with trump? I think he pitched him protective gloves for when eating ice cream.

Puuuuuuh leez. 1) Anything that breaks rules, any time any where is not permissable. Over looking rules leads to a lawless society. 2) I live right near Trump, like 2 minutes away and I drive past that God awful thing every day. It's tacky, it's disgusting, it's out of place and it doesn't belong there. Mar a Lago is a landmark, Trump wanted to landmark the property for tax purposes. As such, he certainly isn't allowed to whimsically change the property. Palm Beach has an image to protect, going God awfully gawdy is not in the best interests of the town or neighborhing property values. If someone wants to fly a massive Union Jack you sure as hell'd be beating down his door. It's the same goddamn thing, a flag's a flag.

So then its ok for people to be arrested for speaking against the president as long as theres a law that says they cant, its ok to discriminate against blacks when there were laws allowing for it. Of course not, when a law violates your constitutional rights, you fight to change it. And this palm beach law violates people's first amendment rights as applied. Go Trump

By flying the flag in spite of laws that all citizens of the town must abide by, you are ignoring what the flag stands for and instead hiding behind a symbol bereft of importance by the bastardization of its standing. The American flag means nothing if it is used in the creation of lawlessness.

So a law restricting freedom of speech as applied is unlawful. The constitution allows trump to fly the flag as he pleases, so hes abiding by the constitution. Palm Beach are the ones that are not abiding by the law.
December 29, 200618 yr Author I wanted pics, so I found one: My god that is so offensive. How dare Donald Trump fly ragged piece of cloth in view of MY million dollar home! FACT: The flag is the same size as the flag that is flown over the White House, and Mar-a-Lago is much larger than the White House. The city of Palm Beach should be ashamed of themselves, I hope they lose this law suit, and I hope all the negative publicity hurts their oh so precious image.
December 29, 200618 yr What an idiot. Just pay the fine. He broke the freakin' rules so he should pay for them just like we always do.

Yeah, just like all those bastards in the 1850s should have been arrested for helping slaves escape from their owners. They broke the rules, they all should have been locked up.
