This was taken from an interview between the website's staff and a sports reporter from the Providence Journal, Sean McAdam:

Mon. Jan. 15th

"OTM: There are rumors circulating that the Marlins would like David Murphy to be their center fielder in 2007. Would the Red Sox be willing to trade Murphy? What or who do you think they'd look for if he were to be dealt?

McAdam: To tell you the truth, I haven't heard the Marlins much in relation to Murphy. I know Florida is searching for a center fielder, but I think they're looking for someone a little more established. They were talking to Tampa Bay about Rocco Baldelli. The Marlins might be willing to move one of their many young starters, but not for Murphy, who doesn't have that value. Murphy's path in Boston would seem to be blocked. Coco Crisp is signed for three more years and Jacoby Ellsbury is rising quickly through the organization. I've heard Texas has some interest, but I'm not sure if anyone believes he's ready to play every day in the big leagues."

Only new news here is that he makes it sound like the David Murphy talk has been no more than outside speculation.

Well, he was at least honest about a) Murphy not worth a Marlins starter, b) that Murphy's future does not appear to be with the Red Sox, and c) he really isn't major league caliber talent, at least not yet.

Refreshing.

We can still give him a chance to develop...somehow in someway he reminds me of a poor man's Luis Gonzalez maybe with a little more speed

I think Murphy's one of those guys that, in the end, isn't really better than the 8 dozen centerfield candidates we already have (none actually being good) and would be a waste of a trade. It's laughable to think that the Sox wanted Tank for him.

rather us land someone else.
