Boone back on crutches

Recommended Posts

The team will be without first baseman Aaron Boone for a bit longer than initially thought.

Boone experienced a setback in his recovery from a left knee sprain when he aggravated the injury Thursday during practice.

Boone was back on a pair of crutches Friday, but manager Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the latest setback was as serious as the initial injury, suffered June 24.

Boone had played in a rehab game Wednesday and was hoping to return from the disabled list next week.

For now, Mike Jacobs will get most of the playing time at first base, with Jason Wood starting against tough left-hander pitchers.
