ABC News? D.C. bureau has evacuated its building in downtown Washington following discovery of a ?powdery white substance,? apparently in the mail room.Taking no chances in light of the anthrax scares that ensued after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, alphabet ordered employees out of the building as sirens raced to the scene. The one-block stretch of DeSales St., NW, where the bureau is located, has been cordoned off.

In an email to all employees, ABC News chief David L. Westin wrote, ?Contractors doing some work in the basement of our Washington bureau came across some powder they found suspicious. Out of an abundance of caution we have evacuated the facility until the authorities can confirm that this is nothing to worry about. We will let you know when we have further word.?
