Posted October 4, 200717 yr Thoughout the great history of baseball there have been pitchers who been able to, with all the chips are on the line give their best performances. I remember Seaver and Palmer were that way also Hershiser. Beckett is the money pitcher of this era. He is awesome
October 4, 200717 yr Alright, before we crown him to be god on earth, let's remember this is the Angels and their not the strongest lineup....nice work with the Fish too but you gotta do this in 6 or 7 postseasons...not two. He's also 2-2 in the playoffs....hardly worthy of "money" pitcher deluxe.

He's 3-0 in the playoffs. And nearing in to 4-0 at the end of this game most likely.

I know the Braves have won one World Series the past 16 years, but Smoltz was 15-4 with a 2.66 ERA (and throw in 4 saves) in the post season from 1991-2005.

October 4, 200717 yr 2-2 in the playoffs  http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player...&statType=2  While you are right, his 2 losses were impressively pitched games. Im still not sure Id consider him one of the greats of the "era" quite yet, but in his limited opportunities it has been amazing to watch him.
October 4, 200717 yr If the Marlins were a franchise with respect, Beckett's 2003 performance in the NLCS, first game 5 then out of the bullpen for game 7 would be legendary. At the time, and I think even now, no pitcher had pitched a better game when his team was facing elimination. He is a real special player.

It should be up there with the Jack Morris game 7 performance. However, I think it was MLB.com that came out with a 50 greatest playoff performances list a year or two ago and it was such a disgrace. I think Beckett was listed below ARod.
October 4, 200717 yr 2-2 in the playoffs  http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player...&statType=2 Yeah, I'm sorry, I misread something on baseball-reference.

As much as I enjoy and will always enjoy watching him pitch there is a part of me that just hurts. I adore Hanley but Beckett is one of those special players you just don't let go. For me, he is jaw-dropping entertainment.
October 4, 200717 yr Josh thrives under pressure. All things equal, I would take him in my team over ANY pitcher

Game 7 of any playoff series. Who do you give the ball to? AJ Burnett or Josh Beckett? Next. . . . . . hell. . .on an elimination game, I take Josh over Clemens, Santana or anyone at this point
October 4, 200717 yr hmmm. . . Game 7 of any playoff series. Who do you give the ball to? AJ Burnett or Josh Beckett? he has AJ start and Billy Koch go for the save

October 4, 200717 yr Most CG SO in the playoffs, career:Â 1. Christy Mathewson - 4 2. Josh Beckett - 3Â That is f***ing unreal. In one postseason trip + a game.

Livan/Schilling/Beckett You can't go by stats alone though. Right now you'd go with Schilling?
October 4, 200717 yr This really shouldn't shock anyone, he was really good when he was here (great in the 2003 playoffs) and he's great now. As long as he's over the blisters he'll continue to be one of the top five starters in the league. It's amazing how that trade is turning out. In the long run it will be only remembered as Beckett for HanRam. One is an elite starter and another is an elite offensive player. That rarely happens in trades, usually one team clearly makes out better when talent like this is involved.
