El Guapo
In 2007, Ken Griffey Jr. asked permission to wear No. 42 on the annual Jackie Robinson Day. Commissioner Bud Selig loved the idea and invited other players to join in. On some clubs, one player wore No. 42. On other clubs, several players did. On still others, every player did. This is what Los Angeles Angels outfield Torii Hunter said, to USA Today: "This is supposed to be an honor, and just a handful of guys wearing the number. Now you've got entire teams doing it. I think we're killing the meaning. It should be special wearing Jackie's number, not just because it looks cool." What upset Hunter, he says now, was this: The Houston Astros had no black players on their team last April, and yet the entire team wore No. 42. Said Hunter: "That got it away from, 'OK, we don't have any blacks,' " he said. To Hunter, a roster with no black players did not represent the progress for which Robinson stood, and baseball celebrated according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. Out of the Past
Hunter is an idiot. It shouldn't matter whether they have black players or not and besides Carlos Lee is black but maybe to Hunter he's not really black because maybe to him blacks from Latin America are not really black. Are blacks from Canada really black? What ablout from Haiti?

Maybe Tori needs to get that through his thick skull.

gomarlins9703
Pretty stupid. Why can't white people commend the job that Jackie did? He was a brave and courageous man that helped ALL OF AMERICA become integrated and more understanding. Why can't whites celebrate his bravery to stand up and help us ALL have a better future? Abe Lincoln was white and helped free the slaves. Should blacks not be allowed to celebrate him because he is white? Heroes are heroes regardless of their skin color. Jackie was a great American and all American's should be allowed to celebrate what he did .

The_Godfather
I love the comment Dan LeBatard made a few days ago on his radio show: So many people seem to cry about the lack of American Blacks in MLB these days, but how come nobody says anything about the lack of American whites in the NBA? PitchingWinsGames
They should have a Admin Doby day for the whole league. While I agree in spirit, no, they shouldn't... however, if the AL celebrated Doby and the NL celebrated Jackie Robinson, then maybe... and it can be Doby/Robinson day, that might work, but "celebrating" these guys on different days just kinda weakens the point of celebrating them
