I'd love to have Maddux and I don't think he'd cost much in term of specs but at the same time I also don't think we should make a move for a pitcher considering how much depth we'll have in just a matter of weeks now.

Our biggest problem is still behind the plate. And considering that's a problem for most teams, it's not that big of one to have. Getting an above average CF (aka not Jones or Edmonds) would help aswell, expecially one who could lead off.

Still can't help thinking about a Lofton/Cody platoon...if we're still like this in June and he hasn't gotten any other offers, could he break down and take the pay cut and play for a non-big market team? I actually think the biggest problem is the perception that the Marlins are a horrible team, not the money, and he wants a ring.

And the only above average CFer that's a FA at the end of the year is Milton Bradley. I'd love to have him, but he makes too much money and then you have to look at the cost of the spec if Texas eats most of his money

I don't know if the Marlins would Invite him back the way he went out. (Burnett that is).

I wouldnt Mind seeing Livan, Burnett or Sheets coming to town (or back to town).

Sheets is a stud when healthy. Burnetts got the fire, Sheets the stuff, and livan the experiance.

Could be good.

Why sign a FA pitcher after this season?

By that time, JJ, Mitre, and Anibal should be good to go. Not to mention Volstad may be ready for the show. Throw in Olsen and Miller and you have six viable SP options right there.

Our bullpen is also set.

There will be no need to dip into the FA pitching market.

It sure would be nice to get that Rodriguez kid as a closer, but he's not going anywhere.

wow...and you guys complain about Gregg?

KRod basically does the same thing...except people actually think KRod is dominant. His stats the past year and a half definitely don't suggest it, though.

For that, I'd rather have Gregg, and gain on an actual weakness. Or trade Gregg, and build a closer from within (and we have many options there, with all the hard throwers in the pen).

Right now I wouldnt want to trade anyone away IMO.

I'm talking after the season...Gregg is replaceable.

I think you guys are missing the point the original poster was trying to make. These are pitchers we might want to look into renting for the rest of 2008, get them on the cheap and pick up some draft picks if/when they sign with another team in 09. Good strategy, we badly need a veteran SP who can give us innings.

I happen to think that Miller and Badenhop will get the job done, and unless you are talking about getting a good pitcher from a failing team, for a low price, then I would not be interested. The last thing we need is a pile of crap to fill some innings for the sake of filling some innings.

Actually, yea... I was talking about us bringing in a pile of crap at pitcher, so...I guess my point is null and void.

Yeah, I still think it's too early. I don't think we'll know until the end of June if this team is for real or not.
