The_Godfather
You are fixating too much over the word "much." His OBP is terrible and I think Baker has the potential to match his SLG as early as this season. I'm not opposed to Molina, but he will likely cost more than Jacobs. If we are going to give up that much I'd rather look for someone like Laird. I dont know what to take from this, but Chris Davis, Texas young first baseman, started at 3rd today. They could have done this because they expect to get a first baseman (jacobs?) in return for laird or because they can then play salti, max ram and teagarden in the future between C, 1st, and DH... It's the latter. You also forgot who might be their most talented 1B prospect: Justin Smoak. They have absolutely no use for Jacobs.
SilverBullet
bottom line with our catching situation...we need some type of CHANGE...anyone but Baker/Hoover...and if Jake is the catalyst for the trade, do it! I'm not overly thrilled about Molina, Doumit, Laird, any of those...but we are not getting Pudge, so just get someone who is a major league level catcher...its worse if we do nothing at all
MrMarlinPride
Push the button! i agree we can unleah dallas mcfearson if we push the button man how great would it be if we get also get manny and keep j herms and trade hammer Hanley Hermida Can-tu MANNY Uggla Benji Cody Dallas Pithcer OMG THAT WOULD BE SICK
miami-sports-geek
It would be kind of ironic to see Jacobs go, seeing how he stepped up early in the season as the vocal leader defending this team.
gomarlins9703
According to Josh Friedman of 790 he was told by a Giants source there was a 60% chance of Molina going to the Marlins. He said the source later told him the Marlins are pursuing the Pirates catcher.
babaru
If we dont improve after all this speculation it would be really disappointing.
flasportsfan88
I know he doesn't K much, but he still has horrible plate discipline. 14 BB this year. Sweet .308 obp. If anything its an upgrade worth giving up Jacobs just defensively.
MarlinFan10
Do it. McPherson + Molina > Jacobs + some kinda platoon of backup catchers
all black marlins hat
what if doumit is somehow involved in the 3 way deal for manny with the pirates sending bay to boston
doop305
Molina is good. Hes a solid catcher and could stick around for a couple years, until we find our long term catcher. Hes also a good hitter, with a good arm. I Approve.
yokofox33
what if doumit is somehow involved in the 3 way deal for manny with the pirates sending bay to boston It could be possible the Marlins are trying to snare Doumit from the Pirates as well as getting Manny, but then it's most likely bye-bye to Hermida, Stanon, and Tucker, plus maybe even another prospect unless the Red Sox throw one in as well. doop305
I dont mind as long as we get one of our needs outta the way.
Valyekrin
According to the ESPN blog as of 10:48am The Marlins are still in the catchers' market as the deadline approaches. Other names they've been linked to include Texas' Gerald Laird, Baltimore's Ramon Hernandez and the Giants' Benjie Molina. But it now appears Molina isn't going to be traded. Eddie Altamonte
Molina isn't much of an offensive upgrade. Molina can handle the stick and would be the best defensive catcher since Pudge or maybe CJ. It would be huge upgrade for the Marlins in every aspect
Valyekrin
Paul Lo Duca just got released by the Nats, I wonder if the Marlins knew about this, and if they might pick him up... and not have to trade anyone to get a catching upgrade.
